Toucher, Rich and Crash in Boston?

I thought I'd check in to see how these guys are making out there. How are their ratings?
We miss them in Atlanta, especially now that their old station was blown up.

No idea about their ratings...but their sound is good...Boston needed an afternoon show like theirs...I think it works better here to have them on in the afternoons as opposed to mornings since it sounds like they gear their show towards a college aged audience....and most college kids really aren't up at 6 - 10 am, and if they are it's because class is in 10 minutes, not to listen to morning drive radio. They fit in well, and I think they'll continue to do very well as long as they stay original and down to earth, which I think they excel at. Wow this post makes me sound like I'm blowing a lot of smoke up their ass.

Thanks for the update man. I'm glad they are fitting in up there.

I'd say so. Ask anyone around and they'll be able to tell you about the Chili Guy, a homeless bum who forever made famous the words "couple beers, no beers, chili"!

#1 afternoon drive 25-54 in Boston... I am in Atlanta, but I still keep up with Fred, Rich, and Crash.

Thats actually not true at all. In the fall 07 book they were tied for 12th in afternoon , 25-54. In their recent trend they fell to 13th. Beat by everyone from Magic to 96.9 to ZLX to Oldies.

18-34 is really their key demo and they are ranked 4th in both the book and trend 1. Jamn, Kiss, and WEEI beat them here. They tie with Magic

i understand how jamn, kiss, and weei rake in great 18 - 34 numbers....but how does magic do it? just doesn't seem to suit that demo....either way you can spin demo numbers whichever way you want to "prove" you are number 1. BCN is probably suffering the same way FNX struggles, a lot of their listeners don't have land lines and don't get books, they just have a bigger coverage area than FNX so they, rightly so, have better numbers. I'd be willing to bet that T&R have a large audience that tunes in day after day....sometimes? maybe never

Travis, I think you are completely right here. I think Toucher and Rich probably have a much bigger audience than these numbers indicate and its possible that the people meter will help solve that problem. I think the same thing is happening with both AAF and FNX as well.

The one thing the landline issue doesnt explain is Jamn's numbers? Is it because they are so teen heavy and those teens parents have landlines?

To see how popular T&R are, in Boston all you have to do is go to a Boston Bruins game when their fans know they'll be there. When Crash... I mean The Dancing Guy, had his dance off with the mustache guy, you could hear the full house BOOOOing the mustache guy. When Crash got on the jumbotron the place started rocking, sections were chanting "Crash Crash Crash Crash!". Those kinds of things don't show up in numbers. I can't wait for the day when WBCN lets the guys take the music off their show, and go all talk. In the next book they'll pull in a million eights...maybe, nevah?

I agree with nearly all of this, except one thing...I don't know that people meter will help BCN, FNX and AAF all that much. If the issue is "land lines" (needing a home phone to be asked to participate), then how does that change with people meter? The survey is only more accurate if the SAMPLE is more accurate.

Sounds like 99X in it's glory days. It's great that lightening struck twice for these guys, they deserve it.

As far as the people meter goes, I think the future of alternative rock and most rock in general is depending on it's ability to more accurately measure the younger demo as well as Arbitron getting a better sampling. The opportunities for new talent to be heard is getting slimmer and slimmer every day- unless you count American Idol. (sarcasm)

The only gripe I have about the show....doesn't even relate to them...they have completely burned out every single dropkick murphy's song....I get it, their local, but sweet jesus...how many times can you push "the state of massachusetts" in a given week? But yeah they came into this market at the right time, and they are capitalizing on a demo that really didn't have a show they could relate to. I'm surprised they haven't had a Toucher and Rich beer pong tournament yet

I went back to look again at this post.

'deadman' seem to want to perpetuate this myth.
(He's posted the #1 claim twice.)

Looking back over the last year or so at T&R it appears they average about 8th.
(I dont see one book where they are #1 25-54 in PM Drive.)

I know you are in Atlanta, but it appears T&R are telling you fairy tales.

They are no. 1 out of the Rock/Alt stations where they have beaten AAF, FNX, GNR, HEB in every book.

The reason Jam'n does so well is because it's urban listeners tend to stay at home longer and or go to school close to home and continue to live at home where there is a home phone. compared to the suburban Alt/rock listeners who move away for school and only have a cell.

I think T and R are the best radio show I have ever heard. They not onlt make me laugh they make me want to root for them and show loyalty to thier show. I think PPM will help thier ratings a lot. Easily, the best show in Boston.

Mistress Carrie is absolutely awful, and unlistenable
Greg Hill is really really really really bad.
Thank God for Toucher and Rich. They are funnier than O and A were when they were on AAF ten years ago. Easily, and I am a big O and A fan too.

oops I almost forgot...

They are definately gonna get a million eights when PPM comes to Boston. They are gonna be a celtic? Nevah! They are gonna take it brockton, framingham, london! Nevah? They arent gonna get a robe trial for RACKATEERING CHARGES! because that means anyone can put on a robe and say there the judge! RED DRINK! PIZZA HOUSE! COUPLE BEERS? NO BEERS? CHILLI! RE-CAP, RE-CAP, RE-CAP THEM BOOBIES! RE-CAP CORRECT! Whos Selling? Whos Buying? Whos Selling? Whos Buying? Call 1-(214)-315-4659 if you want to talk to Adolfo! T.A.R.D. OUT!

No....that's not true either. Where do these rumors start?

In the last 12 books...PM Drive, 25-54.

T&R WBCN win 6 books.

WAAF wins 5 books

WAAF/WBCN tie 1 book.

Are they claiming to be #1 (or always beating the competition) on the air?

Also...it looks like they are averaging more like 13th place.
(In the same period, Mike-FM average rank is 10th.)

They have only said they won and got a bonus for getting #1 in the books once. (18-34 yr old males I believe)

I have never had the interest to look up any ratings, but I would hard pressed to believe they aren't murdering Mistress Carrie in the ratings, as well as whatever afternoon show FNX has. Im sure they are not beating EEI, as this city is so sports crazy anyone can have a successful show on EEI talking sports.

I agree with some of the other posters that Toucher & Rich are the best thing to happen to Boston radio since I can remember, they entertain me every day. They also seem to have a knack for getting their name out there and I hope they continue on the trend and gain greater success.

Hey Spilot113,

T&R have been here just under 2 years, which is not 12, but SEVEN books. And according to you, they've won 6 of them. I'd say that's impressive.

Im sure they are not beating EEI, as this city is so sports crazy anyone can have a successful show on EEI talking sports.

Agree on 'EEI being #1, disagree about sports as being the reason. Anyone who ever listens to that station knows it's racist/political talk by Pete "the Meat" Shepherd (90% of all Revs fans are illegal aliens), John Dennis and Gerry Callahan (both of METCO gorilla fame). If 'EEI WAS all about sports, it'd have a 2 rating like WFAN and WIP do instead of its 5 to 6 rating.
