Toucher, Rich and Crash in Boston?

I really dont think ratings depend on if someone has a home phone or a cell phone. Granted i am a "radio rookie", but i dont see how it would matter. Im not trying to be a smartass here, I really dont understand how the 2 correlate.

The method by which Arbitron selects people for "random sampling" for the current ratings system is by picking random home telephone numbers. They do not use cell phones. If you do not have residential telephone service you will not be selected by arbitron to give your ratings. So to answer your question they are hugely related. I am not sure how they choose people for the new People Meter system but AFAIK they use a different method other than picking random residential telephone numbers.

well you shut me up then. Is it me, or does that system not make sense? I mean most people listen to the radio in their cars

Does anyone know what method Arbitron is using to select people for PPM? I would think using random adresses to send mail would work better and be more fair. They could send a certified letter to random households asking them to call a toll free number if they are interested in wearing the PPM device. Unless your homeless (which with the way the economy is going a lot of us may be soon!) everyone has an adress and everyone recieves mail. Home phone service is something you have to choose to have and pay for, everyone gets mail so I think it would be more fair. Maybe a lot of people wouldn't call them or just throw the mail away, maybe they would have to send out twice as many letters as phone calls but there are people who would respond. Heck, I bet a lot of people hang up on them when they call anyways thinking they are just a telemarketer, a lot of people use caller id or answering machines to screen calls so what would the difference be? Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this? Anyone know what method they are using in the PPM trial markets?
