Toucher's remark has gone National

Dark Knight said:
Just to be clear, T & R are beating D & C in M18-34. Good for them, that is clearly the target of their show and they clearly play well to that audience. D & C however, play more to the 18-49, 25-54 demos which are far more sought after by advertisers. In those demos, D & C are still ahead. Who knows though, after the Toucher kerfuffle, maybe Callahan will feel obligated to generate an even more attention getting opinion, lord knows he's got them.
How many demographic categories are there? The three you mentioned seem to overlap. I had heard of 18-49 and 25-54 and oftened wondered about that overlap, though it's only 5 years. I had never heard of 18-34, a 16 year overlap, is that new?

Anyone find it strange that the Herald seemingly invented this story? ie it doesn't appear anyone called the station to complain, instead the Herald deemed it newsworthy and splashed over their headlines.

No, I find it strange you think they "invented" it.

He def said it, and then later apologized, so it happened, nothing was invented by the Herald.

They just happened to be the first to deem it newsworthy, which then 1200+ news outlets picked up/re-printed/reported on/etc.

Sure you can argue if it, and the other trillion news stories covered by newspapers/blogs/TV/etc are newsworthy or not....but you can't infer that they made it up.

Personally, I think it's newsworthy, and should have gotten more coverage than it did considering if the tables were turned and he said something similar about a minority half the country would be calling for his head.

My point wasn't that Fred issued the remark or not, but that there wasn't an outcry until only after the Herald deemed it newsworthy. A decision they apparently made without any actual input from listeners to the show.

Oh, and last time I checked Nazism was an ideology - not a race.

If it had been a black family and he said it looked like a meeting of the Crips or the Bloods, he would have been fired before his shift was over. What I'd like to know is if there is anything, anything at all, that could be said about white people that would result in somebody getting suspended or fired.

And any of us would know if listeners called to complain or not?

And what's your point? Nazism isn't a race, got it, how does that change anything???

He implied that the white family were Nazis. Isn't that racist? Or am I having trouble understanding your version of the English language again?

Fred Toucher is white, and that is why we don't think he's prejudiced against white people.

The ratings software allows you to break out ratings in MANY different age groups. You can also break those age groups into male or female and various ethnicities. I've worked for stations where bonuses were based on 12-17, 12-24, 12-24, 18-24, 18-34, 18-49, 35-44, 25-54 etc... It's all about delivering the best audience to the client, I guess.
