Tragic Broadcasting Flips ESPN 100.5 Dothan to "The Breeze"

Yeah that's right 100.5 THE BLOWS is running the exact same satelite as WFXX
in Andalusia, the "TODAY'S HITS & YESTERDAYS FAVORITES" format. THE FOX does sound much better! Way to go MAGIC, way to take on a 100,000 watt local powerhouse with a 6,000 watt sattelite feed from who knows where, and a redneck morning show with absolutely no music to jumpstart your workday. This is just another example of how bad radio is in this market.( i.e. You have THE RADIO PEOPLE trying to take down WTVY with two stations, & you have Magic trying to take on WOOF with three stations). All there is to listen too is COUNTRY, AC, 1 TALK STATION & WHATEVER THE HELL KMX IS SUPPOSED TO BE (some type of CHR/97X wannabe ...thing). The listeners are the real losers (those poor people) they can't get good variety on their radio's all they get is a bunch of IDIOTS who are so busy going after each others throats that they have forgatten what this industry is about: TO INFORM, TO ENTERTAIN & YES TO MAKE MONEY (BUT NOT LIKE THIS). People your killing your industry; WAKE UP!

100.5 "The Breeze" What A Joke

It's been a whole month since the format flip and the station still has the same problems it had in the beginning. Still sounds like crap Bad Modulation miss fired stop sets, etc etc.

Been listening for a while now...sounds fine modulation-wise - spots ok too??

It is certainly better than it was and thank you very much for working on it. Levels do match better but things still misfire or just miss firing. HSA, please do enlighten us as to what the logic is, I understand the goal but the path to it alludes me at present. I hear Breeze and JRL playing some of the same occassionally and have even (only twice) heard KMX playing a song I'd heard on the breeze. Let me turn on the way-back machine and do a quick time-line. LDA converts to wild and takes the bottom of KMX. Then KMX goes CHR and takes out wild which goes sports and jrl takes the old kmx position with obvious variations. Now lda is positioned to take away what female listenership jrl did have which brings up another question, how does a supposedly 25-54 female intended format do so well with Men after kicking off Rick and Flubber which is now on the new female intended format? Can you please enlighten us? No, I won't accept the explanation that the men in the Wiregrass all converted after seeing Broke Back (glad I haven't seen it).

So since the Styles purchase (which magically became magic) KMX blew off the young, missed them, blew off the middle age and got back the youngin's they had plus more but in doing so blew away large portions of revenue that the women brought in the door. So KMX traded Money for youth and exuberance...is Magic experiencing the male version of midlife crisis? Are the owners all out buying new Vettes to ride up and down the strip in PC?

LDA on the other hand was created to entice the youngster but didn't. It was like a youngster wanna-be trying to relive lost (or never experienced) youth tried but didn't succeed so now they switch to ladies their own age.

Which all leaves you guys on JRL just like the Steelers Wheel song, (name that tune). I'm really dizzy after the last three years, need my nap.

Thanks for the reminder Stewy! I'm adding Baker Street tomorrow for obvious reasons!! Joe Egan just dragged Gerry down, dude!

Been listening to The Breeze last few days, Some one is working at Magic! It has been sounding better, modulation is good, liners are better. Will they ever compete????

It is sounding better than at launch. Although 100.5 has a good Class A signal, I suspect that with the tower in Newton, there is Office/Building penetration issues. Depriving them of that all important A/C in office listernership.

They have a construction permit to upgrade to C3, with 25kW @ 328 feet HAAT, from a site near the Hartford Hwy / S County Road intersection right out of Dothan.

I wonder if any progress has been made on that? It expires this time next year.

Zach, That'll take a hard dollar investment. Do you really think that will happen? I don't. The deadline could give us an indication as to a possible time-line for dumping out of the market?????

I have no idea if it'll happen or not. Dothan is a part of Alabama where I am not very well versed, media-wise, so I don't know what it's like down there other than the, ahem, informative posts on this board. ::)

I just wanted to throw it out there to see what anyone knows.

Zach, ahem, you fit right in with the rest of us then! We throw lots of stuff on the wall and see what sticks. Or maybe we float lots of stuff and see what begins to stink er..I mean sink. All Trajic questions are welcome here. Sometime I think I should have chosen a different character name better linked to Classical Tragedies like Homer. Comments? Suggestions?

I did notice that they're using the same music service (Jones?) as The Fox in Andalusia.

That is an ABC format.

HMMM, been listening to The Breeze lately. seemed like everything was sounding ok for a while, other than the little things they probably refuse to pay to get fixed. And then, WHAMMY!!! i hear the top of the hours getting cut off, the liners are low and the levels are all over the place again. What happened? I thought i read they had a local, same guy as across town, Eng. Will HE "fix" this? Or will they, as 95.5 says, blame the IT guy...LOL

I'm sure "HE" will whip out his impress-o-meter and save the day.
As well as trashing somebody in the process.

Was it a Trajic .....i mean Magic wand? or did PC boys go up there to help.
