It seems as if KBIG and MOVIN" won't be able to co-exist together. MOVIN" might be the USAs trendiest format right now, but let's face it most markets that get a MOVIN' type Rhythmic AC DO NOT have a pre-existing station with a similar format like KBIG. Maybe Emmis was gambling that CC would eventually flip KBIG? But if KBIG sticks with the format both stations will do poorly.
I noticed both stations were playing "Diamond Girl" by Nice and Wild at around the same time the other day. It's a great song and a true local hit, but when you start slicing that pie neither piece will be very big.
With only 4 weeks of Movin being on-the-air during this summer book, I don't think you can make a statement like that. And none of those weeks included Rick Dees debut which was hyped by all local english language tv and newspapers.
I expect Movin not only to steal from KBIG, which it appears in the summer book that it was already doing, but from KIIS as well.
The station that will need to change formats is not Movin but what will be left of KBIG. And I expect that to be less than what KLSX has now. Nothing like being at the bottom and that's where KBIG is headed.
Here's the L.A. Times liberal slant on the ratings
