Trend Today

I will repeat myself for the love of god stay on topic if u must discuss sports there are plenty of other places this ain't one of them

If you were remotely realted to cinci radio that would be fine but get back on the tpopic of ratings

Happy turkey now see a great segway into what i said would be to discuss the wkrp in cincinnati episode about the falling turkeys from the sky they did as a promotion.Yes its a fake radio station but at least it has to do with cinci radio hence the name radio-info cinci board.

:p

You're right - we should talk about Cincinnati radio ratings "trends" for now on.
Maybe start another topic based on people with no sense of humor and/or patience?

By the way, don't you feel the "ratings" trends for Cincinnati are basically the same - lsince like, forever?
WLW, WEBN, WUBE - usually in Top 5, give or take.
I'd like to see someone really shake up this market and the ratings - now that's something worth discussing.
What would it take? Please don't say HD Radio - it's DOA.

HD isn't DOA just yet. Don't get me wrong, it might be heading in that direction. But I think 3 automakers have just signed on to have HD Radios standard in their new models. Which is a a point for terrestrial radio and minus a point for satellite. Which in my mind, is a step in the right direction for our industry.

Fully agree with HD as a step in the right direction....however:
-Question the timing (late to the game) in terms of so many other choices (satellite, wifi, iPod, etc.)
-Question the technology (not so good) in terms of signal coverage. Plus, how much better is the sound vs. FM quality?
-Question the programming (not many choices) in terms of "unique" formats
Don't get me wrong, I have been in and/or followed radio most of my life - having it succeed and grow is important, sometimes radio can be it's worst enemy....thanks, in part, to the FCC allowing so many large, homogeneous monopolies (like our friends at CC).
Goes back to the "live, local" comments - that approach is fading fast - unfortunately.

OMG you are such loser boys--- get into cincy radio and come back sometime- yeee haw

One of two thoughts one this fellow. Either A: he's never worked in radio and even if he does, I bet he is a delight to be around. Or B: Illiterate and doesn't read people's post or signatures and realize that they have been and are a part of Cincy radio. At least I don't hide behind a fake name.

I hope you your sake anti-em, no ones knows your true identity. Your unprofessional behavior will come back to bite you in the future.

There is no serious radio discussion here anymore- :'(.

if you stay on the topic, the flames stay low. Babble on about WV on your own thread. That way Cincinnati radio people can read about Cincinnati Radio--

now go dip.

There should be no FLAME at all. I am not going to make an ass of myself but you are more than welcome to continue to make an ass out of yourself.

A lot of topics sometimes "trail" off into other areas - that's why it's called a discussion board.
Not sure what your deep-rooted jealously is for people enjoying a lively discussion or your clear bias against discussing radio from a neighboring state?
BTW: Who made you Cincinnati Radio-Info "god" and ruler? You seem to be the so-called "loser" since it seems no one is really interested in having good dialogue with you on this board. Get the point?
Last words to you from the "loser": Immature, pathetic and a coward.

We're just giving him the attention that his mommy and daddy never gave him. So let's move on and not pay him any attention.

Back to the HD subject. When I left Q102 a couple of years ago, they had QHD and BHD (B105) up and running. I don't have an HD radio but I would assume that they are still in operation. I would love to see them fully develop these into full functioning stations with live jocks.

Em....don't know you from Adam but I'll be quick to say that your rapier wit is just the sort Cincy radio desperately needs. Kudos. As for the protectionists, give it a rest. Your egos are too easily bruised. Stop the moaning and groaning for cryin' out loud.

I have one, and those stations are still going, but I can't really tell a difference between the subchannels and the main ones. Q102's HD2 sounds like it's just Q102 minus jocks and commercials, same with B105. I don't think HD Radio has much of a chance, and if you look at the HD Radio section of these fine boards, you can tell most people on here don't. Most of it is about the interference on the AM side, however, FM has its issues as well. Ncincy1 mentioned the limited signal coverage, and this is something I've noticed too. Luckily I have a Sony XDR-S3HD which has excellent FM sensitivity. I can pick up 93.1 WIBC from Indianapolis all the time. But most radios aren't as sensitive. I've never been in a car that has HD, but I imagine that if you're driving around in the outskirts of signal range, the dropouts would be very annoying. People with cars that have HD Radios installed often go back to the dealership complaining about how bad the radios are! Not to mention that the programming isn't really special enough to justify dropping $150 plus on a new radio. Satellite has the advantage of having a nationwide signal that is more reliable, and the huge amount of programming choices. When internet radio in the car becomes more possible, it will also have the advantage of a nationwide signal plus the ability for people to listen to their favorite local stations from coast to coast. Getting favorite local stations in 64 or 128 kbps across the country sounds much better than getting them only in the city in mediocre sound quality. Just my two cents.

Ok, moving past differences - and possibly back on topic of "Trend Today" - can anyone answer these questions?

1.) Why are the "trends" for Cincinnati ratings always (yawn) basically the same stations?
2.) What needs to or should happen - format or whatever - to "shake things up a little" - new corporate owners like Cox?
3.) What do you think the market would be like if WLW went to either FM "solo" or both AM/FM like WHIO in Dayton? Who would jump to the top of AM ratings - other than possibly 'KRC?
4.) Will HD sub-channels ever make a dent in the ratings in this market? If so, when and why?

I've thought about buying a HD receiver for my car. Is the Sony XDR-S3HD that you mentioned a good product? Right now I have a standard 2006 Chevy CD/MP3 hook up stereo in my car. I hook my Zune up too it and the crazy thing is my Zune picks up Radio signals better than the cars antenna does. CRAZY!

The Sony is a tabletop radio. I don't know much about HD Radios for cars. If your reception isn't good, the HD feature will drive you crazy because it will drop out a lot. How hilly is the area you're in? You're in the Ohio Valley but you've also got the Appalachian foothills around. Mountains can really mess up radio reception.

1. Cincinnati is a city stuck in its ways. WLW, WEBN and WUBE have ruled for a looong time.
2. Cox could definitely shake things up.
3. Either WKRC or whatever ends up on the 700 frequency-most likely sports
4. Doubt it.

Ok, we "protectionists" are going to get slammed - again - for going off topic.
What radio stations are broadcasting in HD in Charleston and/or Huntington (since they are 2 separate radio markets) - I know of a few, but none broadcasting more than their main channel.
Cincy and/or Dayton has a good selection, but again, not good coverage and nothing "unique" except for WOXY on WVXU's HD2.
Has that scenario changed as of late where you are? Does you station broadcast in HD? Any plans for HD2?

Stuck in our ways is right - however, by Hamilton County going (*gasp*) Democrat in the last election stranger things have happened.
