The only way Fox will return to Denver is if they convince the Broncos' owners or the NFL to move the Super Bowl champions to the NFC, and I don't see that happening as the owners are loyal to the AFC.
That would leave only Media General as the only plausible buyer since they already own KHON 2 (Honolulu) & (I think) WALA 10 (Mobile, AL)The only way Fox will return to Denver is if they convince the Broncos' owners or the NFL to move the Super Bowl champions to the NFC, and I don't see that happening as the owners are loyal to the AFC.

On top of that, they're on the brink of acquiring KVVU 5 in Las Vegas as a result of the merger with Meredith & MyNet affiliate KRON 4 in San Francisco
I was not aware of that. Before tonight, last I heard was that it was pending approval from the FedsYou realize, of course, that the Meredith/Media General merger is dead - and has been for some time now? Nexstar made a more lucrative offer to Media General shareholders, so they will be buying Media General.

In that case, Meredith could probably buy the Tribune stations too (All of them). Thoughts ??

Speaking of Tegna, there's also Sacramento, where they could pair KXTV with KTXL. That way they could even the field against KCRA/KQCA and KOVR/KMAX.
The solution to this problem is simple.....Nope. There would have to be spin-offs. In Hartford, Connecticut Merideth already owns WFSB Channel 3 (CBS) and Tribune owns WTIC-TV Channel 61 (FOX) and WCCT-TV Channel 20 (CW).
i'm surprise no one has mention this yet, but i can see Tegna buying out the local CW station in my home town market of Dallas-Fort Worth KDAF 33 in to make a DFW Duopoly with WFAA (don't know if they can have one now that Gannett spun off the TV side under the Tegna name, since WFAA and Dallas Morning News aren't even owned by the same company anymore, due to A.H Belo spinning off the print side with the media side, which Gannett bought out) as well as the Houston CW station KIAH to make a Houston Duopoly with KHOU as well.
I actually wish that WFAA could form a duopoly (or at least an LMA agreement just like the old indie KFWD/52 before flipping to Spanish) and KDAF would be a perfect fit to pair with WFAA. Unfortunately, due to the market's current duopolies (Fox owned KDFW/KDFI, NBC owned KXAS/KXTX, CBS owned KTVT/KTXA, and Univision owned KUVN/KSTR), the FCC won't allow another duopoly in the market (and this is the reason why I despise the DFW TV market, too many network O&O stations, but it is the #5 market). Otherwise, London Broadcasting would've allowed to give Tegna (then Gannett) the so-called indie KTXD, after selling all their stations to said company.
Except (And unless I'm mistaken) KDNL doesn't have a local news operation - And ABC DOES care about THATAnyone who thinks any of the Big Four broadcast networks would be in the running, especially to move their main broadcast networks, waaaaay overestimates how much they care about broadcast, and anyone who thinks Fox would buy stations to move to a VHF virtual channel overestimates how much ANYONE outside these boards cares about that. If any of those things were a factor, Fox would have gotten Tribune to move Fox to KWGN as soon as it entered common ownership with KDVR, ABC would have ditched KDNL for KPLR a looooong time ago, and NBC wouldn't be about to move to what's basically a cable channel in Boston with a perfunctory, only-partially-covering OTA subchannel simulcast. If any of the Big Four networks were in the running, it would probably be ABC or CBS just to form a duopoly and stop those stations from falling into the hands of anyone who might actually use them to compete with them.
Unless they convert WGN America to an OTA network, these stations aren't gonna do a thing as the Tribune spin-off has no bearing on the operations (Or future) of The CW network itselfIn my fantasy world, Time Warner buys Tribune's big-market, non-Big 4 stations, like WPIX, KTLA, and WGN, buys out CBS' half of the CW, and makes a genuine effort to become the fifth major broadcast network, but even if it were ever going to happen it might be too late for it to have an impact.

Just the FACTS Jack.....

Does this mean the return of The WB?
I'd much rather see a return of independent "superstations" than another small network.
Definitely agreed there!![]()
