Trio

Disappears from cable at 8AM Eastern Time on January 1st after paid home shopping programming from Ultimate Shopping Network. Last regular program will be Art & Outrage at 2AM Eastern.

Just an update to the previous thread about the end of this network.
______________

I thought I heard that NBC is replacing Trio with Sleuth. Although I think as of January 1 Slueth will only be available on select Time Warner systems. I wish DirecTV would pick up that network.

Given that DirecTV was partially responsible for Trio's demise, I don't count on them to ever do the right thing anymore in terms of programming.

As an example, right before Christmas they added yet ANOTHER all-preacher channel. This makes seven such networks, by my count.

Yet they still haven't added American Life TV, which is a family-friendly channel with classic television shows in prime-time.

Makes me want to say "bah, humbug" to the whole thing.
______________

Are you serious? SEVEN channels of that crap?!? These "preachers" must give Direct TV (and certain cable systems) one Hell of a kickback! Almost no one would purposely pay for garbage like this (or multiple shopping channels for that matter) - so they fold it in to other packages so that you are stuck with it. And you are paying for it too!

What can be done to combat the ever increasing glut of televangelist networks, shopping channels and infomercials? Slowly, but surely, they are taking up an awful lot of bandwidth...

Not much they are making money. People watch infomercials and believe it or not people even BUY things from SPAM emails.

I understand the frustration and agree with it, but take the Discovery Channels, after about 6 months you've basically seen all the shows and they rerun ad nauseum. I guess the future in entertainment for those of us who like "classic TV" at least is DVD sets.
______________

Trio will become an all streaming Internet channel on 1/1. Many cable systems will do the same thing with Trio that they did with Newsworld International... seamlessly transition the channel into Sleuth as if nothing happened.

TW is fully committed to the channel at rollout. If you like 80s cop shows, Sleuth will be among your favorites.

Actually, the new station was used to replace PBSYou, which stopped broadcasting earlier this month. DirecTV has to allocate 5% of their channel space to "Public Interest" channels. http://ekb.dbstalk.com/49 explains it in more detail even though it's specific to Dish. Strangely enough, neither CSPAN-2 nor CSPAN-3 qualify, since they are considered a multicast of CSPAN-1.

Well I got TimeWarner, so thats probably what they're going to do. The on screen guide said "Off Air" for NWI the same way its doing for Trio. And they just seemlessly transformed it over to Current.
______________

I, for one, do not consider the "public interest" to be served by a seventh religious channel which has more than 75% of its programming duplicated on existing channels.

I wonder where one would file a complaint about such things.
______________
