Triple-A Non-Comms

yikes is right!

#1 at WERS past 7 days has 13 spins

#1 at WUMB past 7 days has 12 spins

that's PLENTY for a non-comm/aaa station

many of the public AAAs (not really the two above) air tons of syndicated stuff....many of them are only spinning music they pick 3-4 hours a day

1 spin in a 3-4 hour span on a non-comm is PLENTY!

just to bring in some out of market comparison WXPN spun their #1 23 times in the past 7 days

that's 3-4X a day

that's nearing (if not more than) many commercial stations

Not really. Many AC's and Hot AC's spin currents every 4 hours or 6x a day. Some CHR's can spin powers as often as 90 minutes. Radio Disney can hit 100 spins a week!
One station I work for is every 3 hours, or 8x a day.

I know all that. We're not talking about ACs and Hot ACs.

We're talking about NON-COMMERCIAL/PUBLIC/Community/College/etc type stations.

Those kinda stations should have wider variety, and be playing things 1-2 times a day tops, not 3-4+ times a day.

To play devil's advocate, why? While I'd rather shoot for TSL, cume is what matters, especially in a PPM world.

The only numbers they should be concerned with are donations (if/when they are a station funded by listener donations).

TSL, Cume, PPM, etc shouldn't matter to Non-Comms. They aren't playing a ratings battle.

By definition they are serving the community, and by most fans of public radio's wants from what I know is they want to hear new music, have lots of variety, hear about what's going on in their area, hear the news, etc (all things that most of the Top 40s playing records 50-100X a week don't do well).

WERS, WUMB, etc can all have great TSL's but not enough donations to stay alive or visa versa.

To me someone is more likely to donate if the station is providing those services more than playing Lady Gaga 50X a week.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, KISS is great for what it is, but that's just not what a non-comm station should be doing in my humble opinion.

Yes they are. The better the ratings, the more they can charge for underwriting announcements.
That revenue allows them to better "serve the community".
