wow, that's really useful.
Besides Mobile Internet Cards and Satellite Internet users, how many people do we expect to have internet after a hurricane has ripped through a city, bringing down telephone and energy lines?

... it was sarcasm.

Weather plus on 2.3 might do pretty well.

Mine wasn't. I was agreeing with you. A great example will be New Orleans. I don't believe many people had internet access when the Hurricane. Same thing in Houston. We can expect this (supposed to be) Hurricane to at least throw a couple of phone lines down, thus leaving a segment of the city without internet

Nah, If they are going to cover the weather throughout the storm, they'll use their regular channel 2. Besides, so far, 2.3 seems to be nothing but pre-recorded stuff. I have never seen anyone live.

Yeah I would much rather hear some info on a strong tropical storm with the potential to become a hurricane, as opposed to Stop Obama antics.

btw this will be my first hurricane experience

As of this post, the storm is minimal. It is still a tropical storm, which MAY become a hurricane before going ashore on the early hours on Tuesday. On becoming a hurricane it will be a category one which will lose its strength quickly, once the storm gets over land. Expect wind and rain and local flooding in low lying areas. The storm surge itself is expected a 5 to 6 feet in Galveston. The seawall will do its job containing that as it has done for many years. Houston is 50 miles inland. We will get the wind and the rain and there may be some street flooding. Stay inside, have plenty of snacks and enjoy mother nature until it passes.

I was born and raised in Houston and have seen far worse in my 57 years. I will be at KNTH at midnight along with operations manager Jim Darling. IF it gets bad, I will cut in 'live' and pre-empt regular programming on KNTH as Jim will on KKHT. We will update inside programming throughout the night after midnight.

Chuck, I appreciate what you are ready to do to cover the storm, if needed. I doubt that KTRH will break into the wall to wall UFO coverage of Coast to Coast AM long enough to do so with their prerecorded overnight news.

I am airing hourly cut ins on KNTH and KKHT after SRN News at the top of the clock. The center is expected to make landfall around midday. Edouard has increased winds to 60MPH and is moving west-northwest at 10mph. This is certainly a minimal storm at this time.

At 4AM, Edouard increased its wind speed to 65mph and forward speed to 12mph. NWS is calling for landfall before midday.

Ahhh yes, I just had to play Buddy Holly's "Raining In My Heart" for the daily music feature at 5:20AM.

I'll say this - KTRH could learn something from the Golden Triangle CC cluster. KLVI is being simulcast on KCOL, KIOC, KYKR and KKMY this morning for storm coverage.

If there were a significant threat to life or property, I would have expected CC to simulcast news and weather 24/7 on all the stations in the Houston cluster as they did for Rita.

I did notice that they have pre-empted programming to go to wall-to-wall coverage of Edouardo. Let's see what happens when the Astros are supposed to play later today!

By that time, the remnants of the fast degrading storm will pass and there will be no reason to cancel the Astros broadcast.

Well, the cluster coverage worked until power was lost apparently at many of the Orange county transmitter sites shortly before 9 AM.
