Tropo Last Night?

Being a South Florida native, I don't stay in the Orlando area often. Last night, I stayed near International Drive. I am avid FM DXer, and I had forgotten how easy it is to pick up out-of-market stations in Orlando. Last night and early this morning, I DX'd all of the following:
-96.9 WINK-FM/Ft. Myers. I'd imagine this was tropo and not a station that can be regularly picked up in Orlando?
-96.9 The Eagle/Jacksonville. Again, I'd imagine that all the Jacksonville FMs were picked up because of tropo, and are not normal catches in Orlando?
-Most of the Tampa FMs...although I know that they are all catchable in Orlando, even when there is no tropo
-99.9 Gator Country/Jacksonville.
-104.5/Jacksonville
-99.7 Jack-FM/Vero Beach. Are Treasure Coast stations usually reachable from Orlando?
-WCTQ/Brandenton

if you picked up 99.9 in Jax, then 95.1 and 102.9 might have boomed too. They are all on the same stick in downtown Jax.

I tried hard for WAPE on 95.1, but I think Orlando's 95.3 was too strong. I was using a Panasonic RQ-A200 for all of these pick-ups. I did not get 102.9 either; perhaps WLOQ was too strong at 103.1.

Negative Vadar, WXXJ is on the Hogan Rd. sticks on the southside with WJGL and WFYV.

The downtown stick next to the stadium is home to WAPE, WEJZ and WGNE.

It's a shame..when I lived in Altamonte, I could hear the Ape routinely. That's when 95.3 was WTLN in Apo
pka...I believe.

I, too, picked up WINK-FM 96.9 in Ft. Myers on my drive home from work a couple days ago.
I remember jamming to Tone Loc "Wild Thing" on "Party Song Saturday Night".
I usually pick up 96.9 The Eagle from up north here in Orlando, so I also noticed the "tropo".

99.7 Jack-FM & the 99.9 country station comes in more often than you think here in Orlando.

104.5 is really a pretty strong translator in Altamonte Springs, which is "Reach-FM".
You probably heard Christian Rock if you didn't hear a station ID.

Every now & then, I get 95.1 Big Ape from Jacksonville.
Lite 96.1 from Jacksonville comes in weak all the time.
X102.9 from Jacksonville also comes in every now & then pretty strong, even though we have 103.1 WLOQ here.

My drive is usually from Apopka to I-Drive on I-4, if it helps you paint a picture of my daily travel.

I was able to ID 104.5 in Jacksonville. It came in very nicely. DJ Mo, picking up 96.9 The Eagle was easier than picking up 96.9 WINK-FM. It was one of those situations where the positioning of the radio in the room determined which station came in. I was able to pick up Lite 96.1, which sounds like every other "Lite" station in the country. A few of the Gainesville/Ocala stations also came in clearly. 93.7 WOGK/K-Country was solid, although that is not a hard pick-up. WKTK also came in.

96.9 The Eagle comes in quite regularly, so 96.9 WINK-FM was a surprise a few days ago. 98.5 KTK comes in regularly, too.

I picked up 93.9 MIA from Apopka, FL extremely clear today. Unfortunately, they seemed to have shifted their programming to a more Hot AC instead of Rhythmic AC. I loved that station when it first debuted... At least I still have Z100.1 in Fort Myers to go home to.

;D ;D No doubt you couldn't get me! I'm in Winston Salem!!!

Here in The Villages, Jacksonville/Tampa are recieveable targets. I can't put a directional outdoor antenna here, so it may not be Tropo after all.
I know i've gotten WAPE while standin stillat a trafic light in the car around here.
I'm pretty sure that with an outdoor directional antenna, and a tuner with wide/narow settings and that has good sensativety/selectivity, and is good at rejecting adjacents i'd get more.
I believe that here Crystal River could be a pull in, along with the Melborn area.
I wonder if Belleview would be just a little better for DXing?
Florida has amazing DX, probably due to its location around water and the fact that its flat?

you are right in the middle of the state, good for you. Curious if you ever pick up stuff from Palm Beach, or Miami, then the other way near Tallahassee?

In Ocala I have received radio station signals from Tallahassee, Palm Beach and Miami. To be more specific, I have received WGLF, WBZE and the class A station on 106.1 from Tallahassee. From West Palm Beach I have received WEAT-FM, WIRK-FM and WRMF. From Miami I have received WWFE, WAQI, WQAM and WAXY, all AM stations. On the TV side, I have received clear WPBT-TV 2 Miami and WPTV 5 West Palm.

I have gotten Golf 104, I believe that is WGLF, blocking out Reel Radio 104.1 WTKS Coco Beach from here. I've also gotten WTNT 94.9, and WPFM 106.9?

I have heard WGLF "Gulf 104" on several occassions overriding WTKS "Real Radio 104.1" even though WTKS' transmitter is closer to Ocala than WGLF. I've only heard WTNT once since co-channel WWRM Tampa comes in extrememly well. I've also only heard WPFM 107.9 once in Central Florida while WKZY 106.9 has fairly decent car radio reception in the area. WEAT-FM 104.3 West Palm comes in fairly regularly during certain dayparts, mostly late at night and very early in the morning.

I get TNT more regularly then you, but then again I'm in The Villages, and not Ocala either.
WPFM i've only gotten once.
i got Max 98.3 once too. I get spanish station on 98.1 also at times.

That's interesting that you are able to receive WTNT in the Villages considering you are further away from Tallahassee than I am and you are actually closer to co-channel 94.9 WWRM Tampa. You must be in a unigue location for that particular frequency. FM seems to have a strange pattern at times.

The Spanish station you are receiving is WNUE-FM 98.1 Deltona (formerly licensed to Titusville) with studios in Orlando metro. The Max 98.3 WWRZ is licensed to Fort Meade and targets Lakeland / Winter Haven, a move-in from its previous COL Arcadia. It's tower is located near Bartow just South of Lakeland. At times I am able to receive WWRZ in Ocala even with 100kw first adjacent 98.5 WKTK.

An interesting story about WKTK involves co-channel WFSY Panama City. Years ago when I was on-air at WKTK one Sunday morning, my studio monitors were picking up WFSY, nearly 200 miles away while our own transmitter was about 30-miles away. We were literally being walked over by a station in Panama City. The same thing happened in the Summer of 1989 when a beautiful music station on 98.5 from Michigan was walking all over our 98.5 signal in Gainesville. FM will, indeed, do strange things at times.

last monday night i heard spanish on 96.9 hmmmmmm? must have been tropo. at first i thought the eagle changed formats but an iphone search on google that night did not prove that point. i think the station is from the palm beach area... that's what i found out.... forgot the call letters. i don't think the station is above 5000000 watts.

the other night i had 101.5 from jacks crystal clear here in altamonte. even though i'm a bit closer to tampa. i have actually have received tnt here in altamonte but it's very rare that happens because of wwrm in tampa. i have actually heard talk on 99.9. normally it's gator from jacks on that freq. where is that from? i'm assuming either ocala or somewhere like that. because when i go to palm bay i have never heard it. if not ocala then somewhere up north. and a bit off topic but this surprised me last night. i was listening to the magic game with my grand parrents last night in the car on the way home from palm bay and 95.9 dropped off real bad just past west melbourne. they must have moved farther south or something. i know they had a power change as well. but i was surppprised. 580 actually came in better for the magic down there. and in palm bay there is a lot of buzz on the am radio....
