Trouble at Citadel

I heard Rich Creeger on WIOV doing 3-7 yesterday. As far as I know, he's still doing mornings 5-10 on RED.
Unless their have been some changes on how things are done....he might have to make the 40 mile treck to Ephrata from Camp Hill everyday. Seems to me that this would not allow for much sleep or family time. Would he be paid a gas allowance or be able to use a company vehicle? Before the Bob Adams haters start coming out in droves.....I don't know Rich or the situation....maybe he WANTS to do it. Could Citadel have found a way to do the shift from their Camp Hill hub? Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Rumor is operations are being moved to Camp Hill. Red to handle both stations. That's becoming the trend in Central PA.

That's the trend in radio. Another step toward automation around the clock. :-\

2 weeks ago they moved the entire WIOV sales staff to Camp Hill and in the process lost 2 sales people. Darlene Black resigned and Pete Valencia was fired. Renovations of the WIOV building in Ephrata have ceased. Bob Adams is only starting up his madman tactics again. They'll shut down Ephrata and move programming to Camp Hill like they already did with sales. Red 102.3 will eventually go away and The Big I-105 will be simulcast on both frequencies. That means that Murf & Casey and Val Baldwin (if they're retained) will have to make the Red studio in Camp Hill their new home. I don't see the part-timers having any kind of luck in this transistion. I'm surprised Bob Adams hasn't swung his sword that way yet, but you can best bet it's coming and real soon! It just doesn't make sense why Citadel has to make these folk's lives so misirable when they can't focus on the real issue of the problem with the Harrisburg cluster....and that would be Bob Adams!!! He destroyed Binghampton until he left and a new manager had to clean up after him. When is Citadel going to see the real mess he's created in Harrisburg???

As stated earlier in the thread, he's friends with the regional guy....Wayne Leland. 'Nuff said. It is truly amazing that this man is still employed. Who does he have pictures of?

Did the FCC do away with the 25 mile studio rule. WIOV's tower is at least 40 miles from Citadel's Camp Hill compound. What about the AM station in Reading, which they have been running out of Ephrata? Any thoughts?

Here's an idea. Move Mix to 105.1 and go to more of a Hot AC to go after WLAN and WRFY. Use the current staff plus the new PD they're looking for. Merge IOV and Red into BIG RED 106.7...or better yet..go back to Cat Country. Put Citadel's TRUE OLDIES CHANNEL on 102.3. Just a few random thoughts to keep the ideas flowing.

Not sure they'd want to take Country off of a frequency it's been on for 30 years.

But.....if you did do this, I'd move the whole IOV format over there including the call letters. The IOV brand isn't broken. And on that signal, it could impact the entire market. The Big I 1067...why not?

As far as Mix goes, something more current based is probably in the cards. 90s and forward...It's been gold based since it came on the air. On 105.1, it would get it out of the Harrisburg market. It would purely target Lancaster and Reading. Both LAN and RFY could use some competition. And then if I were Citadel, I take LEV off of the 98.5 translator in Reading and put Cat Country out of Allentown there. That way, there is still a country option in Reading.

True oldies channel on 102.3 is as good an option as any.

Good thinking Boss.....

Now what's your thoughts on the health care crisis in this country...... :D

Health care...WOW...that's a tall order...have to think about that. Meanwhile....here's another idea. Put The X on 106.7 and simulcast WIOV on 105.7. That way they can still brand it THE BIG 1-105. They could say that The Big I-105 just got bigger. Not sure if this would cause too much overlap...but it would add York and Harrisburg. I still stand by putting the Shannon format on 102.3. It would cost them nothing. Even though I like the idea of a more current based format for MIX...this would be a cheaper option if they don't want to do another start-up right now. The simulcast might be considered a waste of a big stick....but I'm not sure just how much money Citadel has right now...if any. They might have to do this in order to make more cuts.

At this point, that might not be a bad idea. The X is totally legit; gaining shares in all 3 towns in the just released Arbitron. It could definitely survive and grow on the better signal.

Another thought...move I 105 to 105.7...keeps the same branding. 105.7 signal covers all 3 towns well. GTY and Bob now have a competitor with an equal signal.

Do the younger Mix on 105.1.

And Oldies on 102.3.

That's the answer..... Gee aI think the brass at Citadel owe us $$ for solving their programming issues.

We'll leave the internal cluster issues up to them.

Problem is the Shannon format's not pulling numbers that I know of anywhere. Citadel just dumped it off 105.9 in DC for sports. Red had a good book, a 3.0. I think they do OK selling that as a cheaper alternative to Bob, and it's cheap to run. Hell WIOV had a 1.6 in Harrisburg! Makes me wonder where the diaries went....
The X is doing well. I think Red has its niche. 106.7 is the issue---A/C hasn't recently done well in Hbg because WINK and the River split that audience between them. I'd move 106.7 to 102.3 and bring back Z107. WGTY's 12.4 in York is just too tempting.

Whoops---check your facts, dummy. I should have said Citadel is ABOUT to dump True Oldies in DC---got confused with CBS blowing up WJFK. No idea what they have in mind, but it failed to crack theb top 20 as True Oldies. Ouch.

It seems Bob Adams hasn't changed. His stint in NH in the early 90's was disastrous to the station and its employees. I truly feel sorry for the employees under him.

It appears that Arbitron rediscovered the country listener again. BOB has a great book, RED had its best numbers in years and WIOV is back to being number one again in Lancaster.

As far as Bob Adams goes, I don't know him but it seems (here at least) that folks have some strong negative opinions about him. I tend to look at it this way. All Citadel stations are up in the spring (MIX had a great Lancaster book) so all the trembling, fear and misery that I keep reading about doesn't seem to be affecting performance. He doesn't seem to be "destroying" anything. So in a side note to Flick: Bob Adams let you go and that sucks but why would he want to have a guy on his staff that obviously had so much disrespect and hatred for him? I would've let you go too. Any good manager would. Attitudes like yours are cancers to accomplishing goals. With each new post you manage to alienate more people who knew you as a nice go with the flow guy. I was talking with some of my old radio buddys last weekend (most of us worked with you at one time or another) and the word "embarrassing" came up with your name more times than I care to remember. This new legacy you're creating isn't the most flattering. You're better than this.

OK...time to lay off Flickster! The guy has probably the best set of pipes in the market since Lou Rogers..LOL. Anyway...the guy has put nothing less than a lifetime of dedication into his profession. I thought this was a forum to express our opinions. Flickster wasn't the only one bashing Bob Adams...but everytime HE makes a negative comment he gets an ATTITUDE LECTURE....or someone questions his mental state....what gives? The point is....after a career of 35 years or so...he's got a right to be an unhappy camper. As far as the people who work for Citadel/Harrisburg....I will take nothing away from them. They are hardworking professional people. We just don't continuously need lectures from the ATTITUDE POLICE. Let's let the free flow of ideas continue. This is still America!

Ok..you're right BossJock. I guess I was being a little lecturey about Flick. You're also right about him having a right to express his opinions even if they cost him the respect of his former co-workers and his chance to ever work again in this profession he put nothing less than a lifetime of dedication into.

There is a reason people use a fake name on here (like you and me) other than their real one. It's so that they can let the free flow of ideas roll off their keyboards without retribution. Flick makes no bones about who he is. That is to be either greatly respected or considered career suicide dumb. You obviously are amongst the former and I'm amongst the latter. It bothers me to watch this guy we all thought so highly of at one time or another crash and burn by posting the vitrol he has on this board. Doesn't seem to be the best way to go out...but hey...you're right, who am I to be policing his downfall.

One final right for you bossjock:

For everyone bashing Bob Adams....
I know it hurts but the numbers speak for themselves.

Not a lecture....just some thoughts.

You too are right winkerfunk. The numbers put up by Citadel/Harrisburg are somewhat impressive. I personally am not bashing Bob...after all....he hasn't blown up MIX....which is a station that I listen to and personally like. The station has been making some respectasble gains..but some managemant wouldn't have given them the chance. The X is solid...and Red does well for the signal it has to work with. Bob has to get some of the credit along with the talent.
