Truth about True oldies 790

Over a week ago someone posted about an alleged announcement on WPRV by Scott Shannon himself about WPRV dumping True Oldies. I also heard this a while back.I still hear promo's for people to join the "True Oldies 790" listener club.Promo's for Bruce etc.
The only thing I don't hear is promo's for NY Yankee baseball. It sounds to me they are not going anywhere but possibly dropping Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers will be returning to 790. I heard at the end of a news break during Imus's show that the Yanks return, I think April 3.

I can confirm my sources have told me Yanks will be back on 790 come the regular season.

I've also confirmed a format changed planned soon. Would probably have taken longer, but Scott's little tirade on air before Citadel had time to notify all employees and sponsors soured the deal.

Hopefully talk. Others here doubt it. But for an AM station what is left? They've already done sports. I don't see why they would go back to it so soon after it failed the first time. That wouldn't make any sense. They would just be beaten to a pulp by WEEI again. So I think it's safe to rule out that format unless they have a complete bafoon making decisions. Music on AM isn't a big seller these days. Maybe Radio Disney can get away with it somehow. But they already have an affiliate in town. So you can rule that out. An All news format? Not in this town. Citadel couldn't afford it. So once again I ask... What's left? Well common sense tells me TALK. But then again I should know enough to never use common sense and try to rationalize what radio corporations are going to do. THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO!

Its a format that hasn't been tried in this market yet, atleast to my knowledge. You'll know in about a month. Mornings are not changing though.

The format has been tried before.(yawn)I guess I'll load up the I-pod with oldies.

I plainly admit......I'm left scratching my head on this one. I can't imagine what sort of format this could be.

Talk?......already covered by 630/99.7, 920, and the hapless foolish people who do brokered talk on 1320. Timeless Classics?......just dumped by 1450/1340. Business Talk?......550 tried that years ago. All News?......In this age of CNN, Fox News, and others, why bother? Even Religion, Spanish language, and Portuguese language are already covered by one or more outlets in the market.

The ONLY thing that comes to mind that hasn't already been tried here would be some sort of R&B/Soul/Gospel format that would target the African-American community.

And......I'm not so sure that would work either......

Let the truth be told....
The station is being LMA'ed out to some local people who going to flip the station to local talk.

The logo will be "Rhode Island talk 790" ;D

I think a classical or easy listening station would be cool. Something like WLKW back in the 70's. It's probably the only music format I can think of that seems like they could possibly do well these days on the AM dial. An older mature audience that probably still listens to a decent amount of AM radio. However if they are keeping IMUS than I highly doubt they would go that route. But who knows. I honestly have no clue what they'll do. I'm scratching my head with this one.

Kenny:

I suppose this format flip includes Steve White and Billy Goodman co-hosting live remotes from "The Great Beyond" as well? ;D

But keep in mind that sports bills well. Heck, even in markets like Houston, you have an eye-popping FOUR sports stations on the radio dial. So they could flip 790 to a second- or third-tier sports station for Providence and try and print some money with it.

Sports was tried and in the end, WEEI ate 'em for lunch. Station WAS classical for awhile as WWAZ, and did EZL/nostalgia as WLKW.

ESPN radio. Wouldn't that be like repeatedly banging their head against the wall. It reminds me of people who try the same thing over and over and over again and expect a different result.
