At one time or another I worked for Cox, Clear Channel, & Stephens in Tulsa.
While I had positive experiences at all three (overall), my favorite company culture from among them was Stephens. They paid well. I always knew where I stood with them, good or bad. They're very fair people. They know how to make tough decisions. But they also provide opportunity to grow within their company based on your skill-set, loyalty, teach-ability, & your willingness to do your best.
The only people I've seen have legitimately negative experiences with that company within the last 15 or 20 years have been people who:
1.Thought THEY were God's gift to the Stephens media group and that they were doing Stephens a favor by working there.
2. Didn't take the job seriously.
3. Lied to or stole from the company.
If you get hired there, all you have to do to be successful is take direction well & work hard. It's not a bad environment at all. In fact, it's a very good environment. I've worked there twice.
I got my first full time job there in '93 doing overnights on KXOJ. And I got fired at age 20 in '95 for not following directions. Well, I quit. But I was going to get fired.
8 years later (with more experience and an attitude adjustment under my belt) I was hired back and had 4 of the greatest years of my career there.
I would encourage anyone with maturity & talent to apply if you think you can add something to the team. Oh yeah...and if you need a job.
