Turmoil at KMYZ in Tulsa

Tuned in this morning to 94.1 and 104.5. 94.1 is jockless with its "lite" format. Think Goo Goo Dolls and Snow Patrol. Don't think I heard anything recorded before 1995ish.

Chuck was flying solo this morning on 104.5. Looks like bringing Greg in last week was just a one-time thing during the transition. I'm curious if there any other changes in store for 104.5.

I tuned in the Breeze this morning, and heard a jock at about 9:20. He just gave the new request line and an introduction about what The Breeze is. It sounded pretty generic and like it could've been a voice track they'll be playing all day long, though. He mentioned his name, but I didn't get it because my mother and my girlfriend were taking about the fireworks at Rhema last night right next to me!

A couple other things I've noticed. The RDS on 94.1 is lighting up as KLIB. KLIB is actually an AM near Sacramento. The FCC shows no requests for KLIB-FM. So, I suppose it's possible KLIB is the default callsign for 94.1's system. It was lighting up KTSO yesterday, but, since it moved from Remington to Oral Roberts, I could see how the RDS could go back to the default. Of course, KLIB could also mean "Lite Breeze" or something of the like.

The current jock just cracked the mic as I was typing this. Her name is Therese Taylor. I couldn't tell if it was live or tracked, but she backannounced and previewed. Both were correct. Not a tough feat live or tracked.

The ex-Kross and KXOJ repeaters sounded like they were running Salem's "Today's Christian Music." That was the tag line used, either preceeded or followed by, "100.7 in Claremore, 94.5 in Pryor and 100.3 in Muskogee."

All Access has a story up about the changes. I think linking to their content is a violation of the message boards. I'll just tell you Google "KTSO" in news and it will come up.

Looks like they'll have voice tracking from voice talent mostly from outside Tulsa for now, but say they're hiring for all dayparts. Not sure if those people will be based in Tulsa though.

Also Bobby Butler has left KJSR for 104.5 where he'll do mornings with Chuck starting July 15.

Hi Gang,

We are absolutely hiring at 94.1 The Breeze. These jobs will be live and local. Check All Access for job listings going up tomorrow (Tuesday) and local papers Wed.

We also continue the search to fill open positions on Z104.5 The Edge, since they were short handed to begin with even before the move. And before the rumors start next week, Chuck will be out next week but he'll be back on the 15th. ;D

I've enjoyed reading the boards and all the speculation but have refrained from commenting out of respect for the people at Shamrock who did not make the move. They are are first class people and I have a ton of respect for them. It could have easily been the other way around and I never lose sight of that.

-That was the default RDS you saw briefly. No call letter change planned.

-Eric Steiner is who you heard on the morning show and yes, it's live. :)

At one time or another I worked for Cox, Clear Channel, & Stephens in Tulsa.

While I had positive experiences at all three (overall), my favorite company culture from among them was Stephens. They paid well. I always knew where I stood with them, good or bad. They're very fair people. They know how to make tough decisions. But they also provide opportunity to grow within their company based on your skill-set, loyalty, teach-ability, & your willingness to do your best.

The only people I've seen have legitimately negative experiences with that company within the last 15 or 20 years have been people who:

1.Thought THEY were God's gift to the Stephens media group and that they were doing Stephens a favor by working there.

2. Didn't take the job seriously.

3. Lied to or stole from the company.

If you get hired there, all you have to do to be successful is take direction well & work hard. It's not a bad environment at all. In fact, it's a very good environment. I've worked there twice.

I got my first full time job there in '93 doing overnights on KXOJ. And I got fired at age 20 in '95 for not following directions. Well, I quit. But I was going to get fired.

8 years later (with more experience and an attitude adjustment under my belt) I was hired back and had 4 of the greatest years of my career there.

I would encourage anyone with maturity & talent to apply if you think you can add something to the team. Oh yeah...and if you need a job. :D

You can add Drew McKenna, who did middays on KMYZ and nights on KTSO as no longer with the Stephens-controlled Edge. She says on Facebook the decision to leave was hers.

Riddle me this, if Stephens is such a great place to work why are Drew, Tara, and Mikey B all gone within the last 10 days? No other open radio gigs in this city that I'm aware of.

Tara left Shamrock (not SMG) on her own to work with good friends. If she has not popped up yet in the market she soon will and we wished her all the best. Mikey's departure was a Shamrock decision and had zero to do with us, but out of respect for his privacy I won't comment any further. Drew did indeed decide not to make the move when it came time to transfer. Not every place works for every person.

"Glenn" maybe you should apply so you can see for yourself, if you ever get out of the basement ;)

I get out of the basement plenty, I just prefer to stay there.

As much as I would like to apply, I have given up on getting a job in radio. Tired of every door being slammed in my face. Oh well.

Good move for Bobby B. instead of just announcing for the Billy madison show on rock 103, he is now competition for Billy. I must say, i have listened to Bobby since rock 102.3 and because of him i will be tuning into 104.5 more often.

KMYZ will have a new web site soon, I wonder if they will also change their format. I have heard that they have added some mainstream rock, I'm not sure if they did I stopped listening to them a long time ago.

They've been adding Active Rock for awhile now...they didn't have a choice, Alternative is a dying radio format.

I have been hearing a lot more indie/alternative on the edge these days, this makes me happy. I heard some deep track rage against the machine and it was wonderful, not the same songs you always hear. Especially late at night, I have heard good variety. There is an audience for alternative, that audience just does not care about ratings or PPM, so no one knows about us. I have billions of friends who wishes the edge would be the real deal alternative. And they are sounding better these days, if they really were good they would compete with the spy and KRSC's listener base. Power outage here In Tulsa tonight, the spy and the edge keeping me company with my battery powered radio.
