TURN IT down

I know this is a radio bored, but...since many of us are media junkies as well, I throw this
out there, (where it will probably be deleted as being 'off message'). However, I persist:
do the folks at Time Warner Cable know that we, the folks who watch programming via those
magical and somewhat volatile little digi-boxes, that we (the idiots who pay out the eyes to wait 40 seconds for the program to lock after punching up the limited hd content) HAVE REMOTES WITH MUTE BUTTONS!
(not to mention DVR's). Hey TWCINCI, you provide us with DVR'S: (I told you not to mention that...) to spin past that which is an annoyance and get to the less annoying stuff we really want to waste time with. TURN THE AUDIO ON FREAKING LOCAL TIME WARNER SPOTS DOWN!!!
Watching, oh let's just say "the daily show"; commercial break, and the audio is like 50 db increase from
programming content. It's not like this hasn't been done in the analog tv universe for decades, but...guys and gals at twcini...a clue you should get. Not only are the incessant commercials for your suspect product completely lame...not entertaining, clever, or well produced...but they're really, uh LOUD (!). Every local client who runs ads on TWCable: I do not hear a word of what you're trying to promote. MUTE THIS.

No kidding. I switched to Dish over a year ago and had forgotten about one of the many things I hated about Time Warner. I often had inconsistent audio levels when switching between channels. Some channels would be randomly missing the left or right channel of the stereo sound. Local breaks would have audio at least 6 dB hotter than the network. Occasionally, the local break would be overloaded and would cut off 30 seconds of the network show when it comes back from break. Most of the time the ads were annoying Time Warner spots for their overpriced phone service. Of course, the yearly price hikes (for fewer and fewer channels) were always fun. I will never go back.

I remember in the '80s we had Storer Cable in Northern Kentucky. It was truly miserable.

The local spots that they inserted were usually either so quiet you couldn't hear them or so loud that they'd practically ruin the TV speaker.

I also remember a public access channel that usually showed an Atari-style computer text screen with local announcements. To accompany this, it always had a super-loud hum that shook the whole building. My parents said, "Don't put it on that channel. That channel will ruin the speakers."

TWC blows! This is one of the many things I don't miss about them. I'm enjoying my Digital Converter and Rabbit Ears more than I enjoyed them in the last year or so I had cable. At least they're free...and no annoyingly loud TWC commercials. Thanks for nothing Time Warner!
