TV ads for WBZ-FM circa 1962

Great ads, and I remember them all from when I was a kid, Thanks for posting the link!

But they are NOT for WBZ-FM. They are for WBZ-AM, which is at 1030 on the AM dial, and which routinely called itself Radio 103 back in the days when AM radios had dials that dropped the last "0" in the frequency, thus 1030 was 103, WABC 770 was 77, WCBS 880 was 88, etc....

Oh, thank you for clearing that up! Yup, I remember 77 WABC and up here 91 WABI. Duh, I should have realized that. Call it Saturday afternoon confusion.

Mind you, there was a WBZ FM in those days, but they were not at 103 on the FM dial, they were at 106.7 FM and now have the call letters of WMJX I believe. Back then, they did rebroadcast WBZ AM between midnight and 6 AM. Then at 6 AM, I remember Carl DeSuze always making an announcement that "WBZ FM will now present separate programming. If you want to hear the latest news, sports and weather, please retune your radio to 1030 on the AM dial for great music and information on WBZ AM." From 6 AM to midnight, I believe WBZ FM broadcast show tunes on their FM frequency of 106.7. The Boston station that really was radio 103 was WEEI FM at 103.3. Their AM sister station was at 590 and had been on the air in Boston since the early twenties, and the call letters actually stood for Edison Electric Illuminating. By the way, I checked out those TV ads, and although I could not enjoy the video because I am totally blind, boy, even the audio alone brought back so many memories of when I was a kid living in Norwood and east Walpole and I always listened to WBZ. I had nearly forgotten about Auntie Clorisa, what a memory flogger that was for me. So thanks so much for offerings those great WBZ TV commercials on the net. Those are some great memories for me pal.

Thanks again Maine-i-ac for providing us with those wonderful vintage WBZ TV spots from the past. These 1962 TV spots for WBZ radio are especially appropriate to watch now since I just learned last night from Steve Summer's Oldies Time Machine show on WKNH FM, which by the way I carry and archive on my Audioldies website that former WBZ radio personality Dave Mainard passed away last Thursday at the age of 82.

By the way, I just sent that link for these TV spots to my dad on Cape Cod, to Steve Summers up in Keene New Hampshire, and to a couple of my friends in Massachusetts. Thanks again for some truly incredible memories, a real slice of Boston radio and TV history.

Sam
