TV Land/Just shoot me

If "TV Land" wants to rerun more recent shows, why don't they create another
channel designed for shows from the 50's, 60's and 70's, and have the other
one for hits from the 80's, 90's and the first part of this decade?

Give them a few years after their creation, and you'll probably find "Just Shoot Me" on both those channels, plus all the other "classics" of the previous two years.

Leave it to Viacom to turn real gold into fool's gold.

You can strike "Taxi" from that list. It was part of the schedule with Happy Days and the Mary Tyler Moor Show (among others) in '96.

Sorry about missing that one. I finally got cable in 1999, so I must have missed it.

I've also thought about a second TV Land channel for older series, but it would probably be stuck in the same digital tier with ALN and RTN. :-\

As far as movies, let their other "Viacom" cable networks show those.

They could place them on Spike TV. I remember a few years ago TV Land and Spike TV both ran the same show "MacGyver" which is a show I like. But they didn't air all the shows of MacGyver"

Anyways I saw today that Hallmark Channel is now airing 7th Heaven which isn't to bad. I like how ABC Family used to air 7th Heaven now Hallmark can. Same goes with M*A*S*H. FX first aired it then Hallmark and now TV Land. I remember back in the 90s when FX just came out then used to air M*A*S*H most of the day along with movies before the network started airing shows like Nip/Tuck.

Don't give them any ideas! That's all they need, an another excuse for a Premium channel (i.e., Boomerang, Disney Toons) that I don't want to pay for. I'm already paying for Cable, shouldn't that be enough?

The Disney Channle is one big Disney commercial.

As for TVL,,,, I dont understand their programming choices such as Just Shoot Me. I do appreciate the Beverly Hillbillies in the early evening though. And stop it with the movies. Yes, like most of us here I see TVLand as something that could be a hell of a lot better, but remember these guys are in it to make money,, so TVL must be making some money with this crap. Anyone know if they are making money on this channel?

Toon Disney when it first came out (not sure when that was) they didn't air commericals. You would think a channel with the Disney name wouldn't have commericals. I remember back in the day you needed a cable box to watch Disney Channel now its just a regular channel like Nick.

You've just posed the $1,000,000 question here: do they make any money on this? Their ratings after adding what we all (rightfully) deride as crap versus their ratings before would be a very interesting thing to look at.

Also, the Just Shoot Me thing has me wondering about exactly who is programming this channel. Do they have some 22 year old college grads doing it who think that this show is "old" and is a "classic" of some sort? Kids who also think that "Extreme Makeover" is a classic because they recall seeing it in high school?!? And that films like "Fletch" belong on the channel because they're 'old'; just like "I Love Lucy"?

It does make you wonder, because this channel has really lost its way..... ??? :

If they are 22 year olds let them do a makeover on TVL message board. It really sucks. That would keep them busy changing it about every 6 months or so. Just don't let them make programming decisions.

Note that if you're in one of the areas that has RTN, it is available off the air for free with an antenna and digital tuner. Unlike Viacom's TV Land, Equity Broadcasting actually does seem to be committed to the concept of classic TV on RTN -- so I'd predict that a second TV Land for older series would ultimately turn to trash, just as the main channel has, but in the meantime it would also reduce the viability of RTN.

Things just seem to be getting worse on TV Land. After promoting their new show High School Reunion to death since Christmas, they showed the first episode FOUR TIMES IN A ROW on Wednesday night, and have been showing it at least one or two times more each day since. This has been the most ridiculous thing I've seen them do yet, not only because of the overkill, but because the show doesn't fit what their format has been in the past and really belongs on another channel. Add to that showing Beetlejuice three nights this weekend and the overkill on showing movies most other times.

Now they're promoting another show The Big 4-0, that doesn't fit. I guess that if the overkill on High School Reunion gets the ratings they want, they'll do the same way with this show. I know it may not happen, but I hope they both turn out to be major flops for TV Land. Even if High School Reunion is a hit in the beginning I hope they tank as time goes on.

That shows this show doesn't belong on TV Land I guess. It would prolly get a better rating if it were on USA or FX.

MTV used to show videos, now its reality shows and celeb type stuff

TVLAND used to show classic tv shows,,, now its more and more reality tv, newer shows, movies and plenty of commercials and promo bugs. They are turning it into radio,,, backround noise. (and dont getme started on what happend to my beloved radio!!!)

Corporate Titans who could care less about the listener and even less about their "employees" have ruined the airwaves so every station sounds like the one in the next market.
