TV newscast

This is about TV, not radio, but I wanted your opinions.

What's missing from this news story? I'll transcribe exactly as it aired.

Slide: California Teacher goes to jail
Anchor: A student breaks up with her teacher after the teacher is arrested for for having sex with a minor. Police arrested that 41 year old teacher for having a sexual relationship with a minor. It happened back in 1998. That teacher is now in jail in California
B-roll Video: man talking from behind a window, shot over the shoulder of unknown light haired person. cut to still shot of sign "James C Endocis High School - CIVILITY" and another of empty school parking lot.
Anchor continues. Now he also had a relationship with this other student, and she just recently broke up with him.
Still shot of unidentified girl standing with her apparent mother.

That's it. entire story.

If it weren't for the DVR's ability to freeze-frame, nobody would have caught the name of the school and therefore been able to figure out what this story was about.

This story aired on one of our local TV station's 6pm newscast. Did somebody forget the 5 W's?

It didn't happen on our newscast.

Later . . .

Dubba +1, adding that fewer people watch broadcast national TV, too.
mainly because there's LESS to watch, since 19 minutes out of 60 are commercials.
('back in the Star Trek day', it was 8 ) even DVR's get tired of that after a while.
maybe radio will learn something from this. sorry. nevermind.

Awful writing and doing live shots from darkened, empty buildings where something HAD happened earlier in the day/night is a totally useless waste of time and talent. I used to be glued to the tube for my news, now finding other ways to gather and watch.

You would think there would be enough local and NC news to fill their newscasts without such a stupid presentation of a story that has little or no bearing on the market. About the only connection to the Triad is that it has happened here in the past.

Expanding local news from 30 minutes to 60 or 90 has low incremental cost, as long as the station is willing for the broadcasts to be repetitive and full of fluff. Unfortunately that's the formula that most stations adopt, although many of them try to obscure the reality by framing it as 2 or 3 separate broadcasts of 30 minutes each. I don't watch them.

Just one thing to say about this...
