TVLAND continues it's direct route down the toilet

The time lag between first run and TV Land keeps getting shorter. And they seemed to be favoring Viacom Shows (keep the money in the family).

ALN is going down-hill, too. Mostly infomercials and cooking shows, and the selection of "classic shows" has gone down hill, too. They dumped the Warner Brothers shows and now they are mostly MTM and Fox (both owned by News Corp now).

This seems like the same thing that happens in radio. No more standards. No more oldies. No more classic hits. But most of the classic Black and White shows can be had on DVD (I've watched a lot via Netflix), or on demand.

Nick at Nite is just about as bad with George Lopez which has only been off the air as a series since this summer and the show gets multiple airings not just there but on local stations as well. And how did they determine this show as a classic, I'll never know.

I lost faith when American Movie Classics aired........CATWOMAN??????? Um, yeah, even if this movie was twenty years old, I don't think it would be considered a classic by any classification!

Most of us have really been down on TVL for overloading all programs (especially M*A*S*H) with commercials. And TVL should be ashamed, but so should all the other cable networks, which are doing the same thing, with 4 and 5 munute breaks, sometimes longer, severak times each hour. Won't belong until they're airing an announcement saying, "This hour's commercials brought to you by (insert name of six-munutes-long program here). Not long at all.

It won't take much time until advertisers wise up to the facts that (1) viewers use commercial time to go to either the refrigerator or the bathroom and (2) advertisimng as only one of all too many sponsors per hour is futile.

Just saw the promo for "JUST SHOOT ME". begining in January. Is there any true classic TV channels left?
:'(

I'm sure they're a few UHF channels left across the country that provide such shows.

In L.A. KDOC has taken the reins of airing classic television shows.

My big beef against TVLand is thier airing of MOVIES!

Though I admit they did air the ONE movie that I would deem suitable for airing on TV Land.

And lest we forget RTN, which is making inroads in several major markets, mainly as a digital subchannel.

Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, KFWD-TV (channel 52) now runs a schedule consisting of classic television shows. Chicago, of course, has WMEE-CA (channel 23) with its classics schedule.

So there are a few local stations providing this kind of programming.

[self-EDIT - tasteless]

Whenever Nick has a Fresh Prince marathon, I am hesitant to watch because... well, it's a Fresh Prince marathon.

And it seems like they have these marathons once a month. Nothing demotes a great show to a boring or rotten one by overexposure, such as this case here.

Actually, last month during sweeps Nick at Nite had a Fresh Prince marathon every night 11pm to 5am or 6am. Not to mention, also airing on The N and TBS.

Closer to topic, RFD I believe is now simulcasting Don Imus. Is RFD joining this trend of cable networks getting non-genre specific? ???

I read this morning that CBS Radio may syndicate MSNBC's "Morning Joe." Joe replaced Imus on MSNBC and CBS still has a hole in it's syndication line-up where Imus used to be. If this comes off, Imus and Joe will be competing for guests and for radio stations.

Look on the bright side. At least the show isn't yet another "Reality" show. :D

Cheers :D

That reminds me of one of the dumbest things I heard about on OLN just before they changed to VS: They were running old Survivor episodes! WTF??? ??? Well, it was actually a hit with the Master Control Operators (it was way better than the crap they were airing prior), and I think it rated well. Well, Survivor reruns were brand-specific at the time, and it was/is MUCH better than "American Idol: Rewind"!

Saw this weekend that TV Land is bringing back "The Beverly Hillbillies". Could they be bringing back other shows. I miss the long weekends they used to air that would focus on one classic show all weekend. "Emergency" is probably one of the shows I miss seeing.

It has to do with the post immediately before the one you quoted.
