TVLAND continues it's direct route down the toilet

Saw this weekend that TV Land is bringing back "The Beverly Hillbillies". Could they be bringing back other shows. I miss the long weekends they used to air that would focus on one classic show all weekend. "Emergency" is probably one of the shows I miss seeing.

I'd bet that Emergency hasn't aged well. Yes, I loved it as a kid - but it would probably look really dated now. Anyhow, the way that TVLand is trending, I doubt that we'll see it there.

Shows that I would love to see back on TVL include: The Odd Couple, Hogan's Heroes, and McHale's Navy. Beef up showings of Mr. Ed, Jeannie, Bewitched, etc. Also, it wouldn't be bad if they'd dust off shows like Patty Duke, Gidget, Hazel, Car 54, That Girl, The Partridge Family, Love American Style, etc. Whip out a bunch of them and rotate them on an occasional basis so that they stay somewhat fresh. And, how about showing those classic (and ever-so-campy) episodes of Lost In Space? SciFi showed them a long time ago, but I haven't seen any in years.

There is so much material out there that is just languishing. And, so much of it was really pretty good stuff.

Can the damn movies, incinerate the wretched reruns of Extreme Makeover (castrate Ty while you're at it!), and show us some CLASSIC TV!

Emergency is somewhat dated but considering how behind the times many rural hospitals are today, well maybe not.
I bet some of them today are no different than what Rampart used back in 1974.

I do remember in one show where Dixie ( Julie London ) is smoking a cigarette in the nurse's lounge. Ah trying doing that today.

TV Land should get classic S.N.L. from E!, because they NEVER show them.

You know, that's not a bad idea. Particularly if they concentrate on those that predate 1990. It would be nice to see the original cast again as well as the second and third groups that came after them. Most of the reruns on E! seem to be less than 5-10 years old, which is ok - but most of the show's funniest material comes from way before then. Today's cast is a pale shadow compared with those who came before.

Classic SNL would certainly be a better programming choice for TVL than movies or that dreadful "Extreme Makeover" crap!

American Life TV continues to become what TV Land started out to be...with shows like:
Land of the Giants

Lost in Space

Time Tunnel

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

Burke's Law

The Green Hornet

Batman

The Rat Patrol

Mission: Impossible

Lou Grant

and others.

Keep checking your cable line-ups to see if it's been added(usually somewherre up in the digital region).

Unfortunately, American Life now seems to be filling more of its schedule, especially on Saturday nights, with the infomercials and lifestyle stuff they air during the day.

"The Beverly Hillbillies" are coming to ME-TV in Chicago (WWME-CA) so there probably is some sort of new deal on this show.

We get "Patty Duke" on ME-TV and that show is unwatchable in reruns. I can't believe how bad it is. Just like "One Day At A Time," I loved it when it was on but Bonnie Franklin overacting in every episode is just too much.

Some of these shows just don't hold up well.

American Life is going down the toilet, too. They just aren't as far down the bowl.

In addition to Informericials, it looks like they made a deal with News Corp. They dropped a bunch of classic Warner Brothers shows for some cheesy Fox shows (including Irwin Allen's dreck).

Or The SNL clone..Fridays !!!

When that Andy Kaufman bio flick came out years ago I thought for sure at least one channel would dig it out of the closet and air it. But alas, I heard its a lost show.

2 reasons are given why no Fridays...

1. Michael Richards before he did Seinfeid was a regular on the show and for some reason didn't ( perhaps refused ) to sign a contract allowing for Fridays to air in reruns.

2. SNL creator Lorne Michaels sometime in the 80s or 90s bought the rights of Fridays just to mothball the show becuase he wanted HIS show ( SNL ) to be remembered and not Fridays. If this is correct, he suceeded. People today talk about SNL and the cast of not ready for prime time players..but hardly ever someone mentions Fridays other than the Andy Kaufman incident or the number of punk bands who made an apparance on Fridays like The Clash and the late Wendy O'Williams.

KISS's 1982 appearance on Fridays is included on one of their DVD sets, so the footage is out there.
Wendy O. Williams and The Plasmatics made a memorable appearance on SCTV's "Fishin' Musician" as well.
