Tweakin' Sunny 105.9

I didn't even need to see the Arbitron numbers to know that Sunny's doing good things that people want to listen to the past month.
Congrats to them for being the #1 commercial radio station in Orlando!

Thanks DJ Mo for bringing up Sunny's great numbers. Congrats to them indeed! I've been listening in Jacksonville for quite some time and it's really been cool seeing the station evolve over time. There were lots of trials and errors but as I have been saying in the North Florida Board, at least these guys were given the time and latitude to build Sunny 105-9 into something really good.

It was really uplifting for me to take in what Paco Lopez discussed regarding the after party show. It seems more and more, the PD has little wiggle room to do anything, let alone make decisions. It was just good to see a PD gather his team, solicit their input and not be afraid to venture down a different road. Early on, I wasn't exactly kind to Rick Stacy. He's created something very special. If anything, he's made listening to a so-called oldies station mass-appeal enough where even younger folks can find elements they like too. Again, congrats! Rick, Paco and Domino - you've earned this moment.

It seems to me that Sunny is indeed always updating their library. Last night I heard Jackson 5 and Leo Sayer in the same hour as New Order.

I swear this station plays all my favorite music and then some. Not to mention the station as of right now doesn't play the same song within the same day. Even with its signal limitations in Citrus County I listen to Sunny almost exclusively in the car and in the house. Why flip between 5 different radio stations when I can hear all my favorite music on Sunny. Plus get to listen to personality radio I can't find elsewhere.

As mentioned in another thread I hope CBS doesn't sell off its Orlando cluster, especially if it includes Sunny flipping formats.

While Sunny does rotate the library, therr are some songs I feel like I hear every time I get in the car, such as the Blues Brothers version of Soul Man, Who's That Lady, and a song I haven't heard on any other station in decades, but hear 3 or 4 times a week on Sunny, Helen Wheels by Paul McCartney

Sunny started the not repeating same songs within the same day within the last week. Its part of the "4 more years of fast music" campaign they been running against WMMO.

Now Sunny does have songs that they play once everyday to a few times a week. Every station has songs that are in heavier rotation than others. That is probably true even with most Jack FM or Adult Alternative type stations.

Sunny is on top of the ratings and they are still tweaking themselves personality and music wise. Now lets just hope this momentum here in Orlando helps place a personality driven oldies station in nearby metro's. Rick Stacy should be proud to have one of the best programmed stations in Florida. That should also go to Paco, Domino and Kurt.
