Two FM transmitters

I am going to close this thread shortly, as it has diverged way off the original poster's intent. But I want to make a couple of quick things clear:

If you don't know what the transmitters originally being offered in this thread are, or how they work, you do NOT want them. They are very large, very heavy, require more power than you're going to have in a home setting (I can't recall if they need three-phase or not, but certainly 240 VAC), and they are for use on licensed full-power FM stations.

If you *are* a licensed full-power FM station, you will probably spend more money hauling one of these things to wherever you are and getting it working than you'd spend to buy a modern solid-state transmitter from a current manufacturer with support.

If you are a US-licensed LPFM station, you are required to use an FCC type-approved transmitter.

And the most important point on behalf of your moderation team:

If you are in the US and are NOT a licensed broadcaster, this forum does not encourage or provide support for unlicensed broadcasting at powers above legal Part 15 limits, which are extremely extremely low. We will not be a platform for sales or discussion of these unlicensed, illegal Chinese transmitters. There's a huge difference between the stuff being sold on eBay or other consumer sites, and units like the Aqua Broadcast Cobalt that was posted a few posts ago. The Aqua has FCC approval and is sold to licensed broadcasters by legitimate sales representatives (SCMS, BSW, etc.)

Yes, some of the FCC-approved transmitters are made in China, and almost all transmitters contain at least some Chinese-made parts. There's excellent quality production... and a lot of junk, too.

Further discussion of the pirate junk will lead to account suspension and bans. Further discussion of the legitimate gear is very much encouraged.

(Also, while this is a US-based forum, we have international users, and we understand that in many jurisdictions, the line between "licensed" and "unlicensed" and "type-accepted" and "junk" is much thinner. IF you are outside the US where the rules are different, please make that clear in your posts!)

Maybe he didn't know FCC rules and perhaps he bought something advertised as FCC approved. Not everyone here has been a radio engineer for over 50 years like me. I recognized the original 2 transmitters for Class A FM's because I have used them at FM stations I have owned and operated.

I haven't had much sleep the last few nights. Tornados have done damage to my town and we are now flooding. Historic rainfall is coming over the next several days and it will be bad. I need to tell my listeners what roads are closed.

I understand the FCC rules because I took part in FCC Rulemakings. I understand that most here are not my peers. I do have many successful broadcasters on my Facebook though.

Before Frank the previous owner of this board died, he wrote me and said he wanted an LPFM in his town. I found frequencies in Midland Michigan he could have used. Too bad he's gone. This board is not very friendly anymore.

Goodbye Radio-Info.

I hope you get some sleep and you don't flood!

Please understand my comments weren't aimed at you. What we're trying to do here is to make these boards (especially the buy/sell boards) better suited for professionals like you.

Stay safe and keep us posted, please.

Scott and all:

What many know but has not been stated here is that the under $200 FM transmitters are not spectrally clean. They create a signal that is wider than an FM channel and their harmonics can create interference in the aircraft band, a big no-no. Finaly the modulation quality is not good.

They are definitely not for professional broadcast or Part 15 use.

Sure enough. The floods followed the tornados. The main highway into town along with the other roads cut us off from the world. We survived by being on higher ground and a generator. We had more than 2 dozen water rescues. One person drowned when his home was flooded.

Sorry for being a grumpy old man. That's not how I want to be remembered.

What happened to my thread? The transmitters are still available, BTW.

More on the free transmitters: The B-E was licensed for 2.4k on 102.3 It weighs 1200 pounds. Its solitary tube is a 4CX3500A. The CCA is set at 8000 watts. Three phase power in. It weighs 900 lbs. The IPA tube is a YU-181, otherwise known as a 3CX1200Z7.. I have three spares, condition unknown. The PA tube is a YU-148, otherwise known as a 3CX600087. I have one spare, condition unknown. Transmitter is single phase. I need to get these transmitters gone. Also, neither one comes with an exciter. I also have two transformers, condition unknown. Good for recycling at9
the very least.

Will you please email me or PM me, again? I'm getting ready to drive up and load these transmitters and need to work out details. Sorry. I've lost your email somewhere in all of these computers and email accounts.

I really need to resolve this.

Gone by June 30 or off to the crusher they go.

I'll know soon as I am coming jp on a hard deadline. These have to go.

Unreal how people lead you on about wanting something... and then they vanish. Very annoying.
