Two NBC stations for Jackson TN?

dont feel bad. I cant post their either and all I've done is post info in regards to why Dish couldnt carry WMC amymore there or when Directv would carry it

Someone asked there is a 39.2 and it says CW but no picture yet

So they're adding CW?

If they're really depending on OTA good luck unless they have some kind of set up within a mile or two of the tower.

a guy in the Jackson area I converse with on another site said the same thing

my grandfather moved to jackson,tn and he lives in the city limits and he has a big antenna 25 or 30 feet in the air and he cannot even pick it up.

Directv turned on WNBJ to subs on channel 6

and some folks are PISSED because they had to remove WMC in most of the market (there are a couple counties that get BOTH)

I guess when you've relied on WMC for 50 years for NBC programming and now this new "podunk low powered station" is now the NBC folks aint happy

I'm not surprised since DirecTV and Dish only carry local stations when they are available in a market, and that's one of the major reasons I dropped Dish and went back to Charter, although I don't like that they don't carry WNBJ, or WATN or WLMT from Memphis.

actually DIrectv can carry Significant Viewed and they do in 2 of Jackson's counties
Chester and Gibson counties get BOTH Memphis & Jackson locals on Directv

Dish can't due to a court case years ago that they lost. For a few years they couldn't carry ANY station that wasnt part of the market. They cut a deal with the FCC that if they carried ALL markets in SD at minimum, they (dish) could import stations only if there is no affiliate in the market. When WNBJ went live, Dish (by law) had to remove WMC

In my comment I meant in Madison County. What doesn't make sense to me is that Crockett County, where I live, is considered part of the Memphis market and can't get the Jackson market stations unless something has changed. I'd like to be able to get the Memphis and Jackson stations both. In other words I couldn't get WJKT Fox 16 on either satellite system, although I only live two miles away from their tower.

yeah that is one of those quirks. There is one like that in Minnesota
Mankato is 80 miles SW of Minneapolis and its own market...consisting of 1 station (KEYC CBS and FOX subchannel)

Here is where it gets weird. Their studio is in North Mankato, which is in Niccolet county, which is the Minneapolis market (even though Minneapolis is 80 miles away). Directv gives you all the Minneapolis stations and KEYC CBS (but not Fox for some reason). Dish due to their court case issue only gives you Mankato CBS & FOX and Minneapolis ABC & NBC even thought **technically** they can't give you KEYC in Nicollet county. I'm sure they got a waiver or something (Mankato is right across the river in Blue Earth county)

Another weird thing: FOX O&O WOGX (semi-satellite of WOFL), licensed to Ocala FL with transmitter in northwest Marion County, but not carried on Cox, Bright House or satellite in Marion County (had been on Cox until last April when it was dropped in favor of WOFL). Comcast does have WOGX but only in SD. The FCC says WOGX is a Gainesville market station although its COL is in the Orlando market. Also let's not forget the WOUB debacle, when it was taken off satellite in COL Athens OH (Charleston-Huntington DMA) because it was assigned to Columbus. Any other examples of this?

Counties on the fringe of markets swap all the time. There was about 10 PBS stations that had that happen to them (be reassigned) including East New Mexico PBS which is now in the Amarillo DMA

There is a county in Ohio (Auglaize County) that seems like yearly it jumps between Lima and Dayton markets. In fact WHIO (the CBS in Dayton) actually filed a complaint to get the county to stay in Dayton DMA or require cable companies to carry the station (in Lima's defense CBS was on a low powered station and only available for a few years now)

Doesn't Jackson Already get CW on cable? What will happen to that feed when WNBJ .2 Goes Live will it go away, will charter be forced to drop CW or pick up WNBJ? Still I am not surprised they are adding a sub channel.

its possible it would be the same thing. Is the CW in Jackson just the CW+ feed? I know there are places where the formerly "cable only" CW feed is a subchannel OTA too.

Jackson Does Get CW Plus already on Cable. I am wondering if WNBJ will pull a Fox news and make charter carry WNBJ or Lose CW as well.

It's the CW+. Although it's cable-only, it's call letters are WBJK, because it was previously the WB+. I wish the Jackson DMA had the CW station from Memphis or Nashville instead.

I have an update on a few things brought up in this thread. The big news is that WNBJ finally has a deal with Charter and they plan to start on August 31st. I'm glad this is finally being done although I think it took way too long, probably because of Charter trying to hold out since WNBJ is a low power station.

Also, WYJJ is now carrying Antenna TV on 27.1. It seems like it would make sense for them to make a deal with Charter as well although that probably hasn't happened yet.

Also, I still have not been able to get any kind of subchannel on WJKT, so I don't know whether the information that they are carrying Bounce on 16.2 is accurate.

It's been a little over 2 weeks ago that Charter was supposed to start carrying WNBJ, but they're still not on. I called yesterday and was told they're still working out technical problems but will be on soon. I just wonder how long from now soon will be.

Most Cable systems receive the station feeds via fiber optic connections. They do not rely on over-the-air reception.
I'm guessing that there is a disagreement between WNBJ and Charter over who will pay for the fiber connection.

A few more updates: It's been over two months since WNBJ was supposed to be on Charter andd it still hasn't happened. Either the deal fell through or whoever I talked didn't know what they were talking about.

WYJJ-LD 27 has made more changes. They're now carrying Bounce on 27.2, Doctor TV on 27.3, and Sonlife TV (Jimmy Swaggart) on 27.4. The fact that 27 is carrying Bounce makes me believe that it either is no longer on WJKT 16.2 or it was never there. I live about two miles away from WJKT's tower and haven't caught anything on 16.2 snce they dropped Live Well.

It wouldn't be a question of whether Raycom could sue.. it isn't their call.
It's NBC's call...
Madison County, TN is not in the Memphis DMA, so if NBC wanted to affiliate with a station in or near Jackson, it can.
Also, if NBC has affiliated with WZMC and another station WNBJ says it is the future NBC station in Jackson, it means the network is pulling its affiliation from WZMC and moving it to WNBJ.
Again, the network can do that and it doesn't mean NBC will air on two different station.
