Two-part question regarding Star 98.7...

1)---Does anyone know when Star 98.7 was launched?

2)---Was it an AC or a 'beautiful music' station (a la the old KJOI) before the flip?

Thanks!!!

Don't remember the year, but before it was STAR it was Touch 98 and previous to that it was EZ. Both Touch and EZ were AC with EZ being very soft in music and presentation. Of course it was KJOI before all that. At one time KJOI, KOST and KBIG were all competing Beautiful Music formatted stations and now are all under the same roof in Burbank. I should note that STAR was originally a much more traditional sounding hit music station. I want to say that it became STAR in the mid 90's but I'm a little fuzzy on that.

IN 1948 the station used the call letters KMGM followed by KCBH.
It became KJOI airing a “beautiful music format in the late 60’s through the 80’s.
In 1989, KJOI became KXEZ, Viacom purchased KQLZ in 1992 and the call letters and format of KXEZ were moved to 100.3 FM.
I believe that the call letters for 94.3 FM were changed in 1992.
By 1993 the adult contemporary music format it started with was changed to an hot adult contemporary format.
