U.K. - U of L Radio Networks

Does the University of Kentucky or the University of Louisville have the larger radio network for their football and basketball broadcasts? Over the years, it seems U of L moved from just a station or two in the City of Louisville to having some stations in parts of the Commonwealth. U. K. has alwayed seemed to have an extensive network going back to the days of Claude Sullivan and the Standard Oil Network along with Cawood Ledford calling the Wildcats at the same time on 50,000-watt WHAS.

Both schools have Cincinnati stations on their network. WCKY - 1530 - has both the Cats and Cards and if the teams are playing at or close to the same time, the Louisville games are aired on WSAI - 1360. I wonder if those are the only out-of-state stations that carry the two teams?

Just wondering the extent of how the two rivals are heard in Kentucky? I assume each team may be heard in all parts of the Commonwealth

I remember when UK took over WHAS as primary coverage over the Cards a few years back, Clear Channel made a deal with UofL for statewide coverage. As part of the deal, they also branded WKRD 790am in Louisville as Cards Radio (which I enjoy).

If memory serves correctly, UK has three 50,000 stations, creating a big triangle of coverage. UK also has several other smaller stations. As far as UofL, I think they are on about 18 or so stations with one or two sprinkled in Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee.

I am a Louisville fan, but I would bet anything that UK has better coverage on more powerful stations.

But I have discovered that the FM Lexington UofL affiliate doesn't block the cover on their online stream like all of the other UK / UofL stations do..... ;-)

Best i can tell, Nelligan Sports manages the Louisville syndication effort and IMG (college sports monster) manages the U of K sports on radio.
IMG is huge. Notre Dame, University of Michigan and on and on.....

I've never heard of Nelligan Sports.

Nelligan Sports are on your station JRY. They market NKU.
