UNCONFIRMED: Ed Brantley OUT at WIVK

It's Knoxville's War of the ******bags 2010 with the the only winner being the guy that doesn't care if he loses so long as the other guy loses bigger. Aside from the parties themselves, does anybody have any sympathy for either set of a$$holes?

The real shame of it all is the to-be-determined number of innocent bystanders that will be screwed over. The body count will be different depending on how this all comes down.

This is the biggest blunder in the history of the radio industry.

My rating of blunders:
Blunder #1 has to be Citadel buying ABC Radio. This would never work for 2 reasons. #1 (Corporate Cultures’) The ABC radio operation was “bigger” and better ran than Citadel. It is very hard to have “subordinates” making 2 and 3 times what you are. Citadel could not justify all that expensive talent at ABC radio because they were never a major player in the top 10 markets. The reason most people will site: It was a “cash” deal for Disney and left Citadel holding the IOU Bag, but even if the money would have worked out this deal was doomed from the start.

Knoxville Blunders: For the listener, the oldest I can think of was WRJZ going religious. IIRC WRJZ was a rating winner. IMHO they had a killer morning show. I feel it is like the “Babe Ruth” curse on local radio the Boston Red Soxs had.

Then he owns three more unreal stations than I do. Just sell him one of yours.

Options expire Friday. If my plan goes as I think it will I won't need to do a thing. If my plan fails I might be in the mood to talk.

So, how 'bout Ed & Bob? I'm putting even money on their morning show sending HHH packing before 1/1/11.

Who wants to step up to that?

Made a fortune on the S&P and the e-mini, thanks for asking.

Might pitch in a dollar more than Merle is worth.

You'll at least get a dollar.

Sorry but HHH will be around long after Ed and (insert name here) have tried to figure out their direction.

The guy in the post just before yours is offering even money.

The biggest question is how bad will they hurt whomever they ultimately target? I mean, they've been socking away all that money from both stations, as well as from the sale of a couple of their other station for a long, long time. I would say they've got millions and millions of dollars in their promotion budget to make their dominance known.

It's time for some of that millions and millions to come off the porch.

I don't think they see the point in spending their money right now. Have you seen the trends? The stunt still beat the actual switch.

Ok... Billboard campaign start of winter book. They can do that with some of the interest from the millions and millions. Maybe they can get Allison Burchett to be on 'em.

All right. All right... Put the accountant/politician on the boards.

Another month of trends are up. Interesting movement.

Yep, it seems reports of WOKI's demise are greatly exaggerated.

On a completely unrelated note, it's been so long since I've looked at trends, I had absolutely no idea that 104.5 had caught and passed 102.1. I was more than a little surprised at that.

Trends are fleeting. 102.1's drop may be due to hot weather, and their target listener spending more time in an air conditioned mall (not listening) while 104.5's target listener may be out (listening) at the pool.

Anyone want to place bets on whether WIVK's promotion buys 'em some of their audience back? And, if it doesn't work, will pulling it hasten their slide? If it works, will it cause advertisers to hold their money (or spend it somewhere else) in between promotions?

Pirkle was right. Somebody closer in should've locked up True Oldies.

Yeah, but from the looks of it, Hot has been #3 with Star #4 since last year. That's what surprised me. One hot (forgive the pun) trend wouldn't have, but sustaining it does.

Don't know what the promotion is because I'd rather drive stakes into my ears than listen to country.

As far as Oldies, I think South Central has thought about putting it on the Jacks, but don't want to sign a deal and have no place to park the X if/when Pirkle takes back 94.3. Despite its numbers, I hear it bills well enough, probably because they sell it with WIMZ.

I think the LMA specifies they can't change the format. Pirkle will get the station back, format and all next year.

Could be, I don't know. But I would be willing to bet that South Central goes Alternative with 94.3's SS-employee airstaff on 95.7, 106.7 or both before that happens.

If South Central is willing to keep writing the checks, the checks are on time and clearing the bank, why would Pirkle be insistent on taking it back?

There's more money in selling ads on more stations.

Who said that Pirkle was wanting to take it back? South Central is has made no secret that their new ambition is in online sales and home theater installs. Just makes sense for them to divest their rental assets.
