Update: Employees Attempt Purchase of KBAC from EMF

EMF, which by the way is a very well run company, got a great deal on these two stations. Perhaps it will work for EMF to spin KBAC and keep KSFQ. KSFQ, while not a flamethrower, actually covers a lot of ground from just north of Albuquerque through Santa Fe north almost to Taos. So, it might serve EMF's needs. Or, mabye EMF wants both stations so they can clear both the K-LOVE and AIR1 formats. If the KBAC group cannot buy 98.1, they can always get 102.9 or the incoming 100.7, which have boosters in Santa Fe delivering a signal similar to the KBAC booster. The 101.5 signal will never be really strong over Santa Fe, being limited to 200 watts for technical reasons. The 101.5 situation is kind of strange in that the spokespeople at 101.5 say it is employee-owned, but there has never been an application at the FCC to change ownership from James Bumpous to any other entity. So the 101.5 is actually some kind of LMA. I wonder if the employees who think they own part of the station realize this? ???

101.5 is an LMA...its no secret. Yes, I agree there's other alternatives should EMF not want to spin off KBAC. I can't imagine that the KBAC folks are concerned with covering much more than Santa Fe proper - which they're doing with an booster anyway...albeit with 4.6kw instead of 200w like the Pecos move-ins.

Actually, the 101.5 booster is the only 200 watt booster. The 102.9 licensed booster and the 100.7 CP booster are both 5,000 watts. KBAC's booster, as you correctly noted, is 4,600 watts. :)

Which is probably what will happen. EMF likes having both formats in a market wherever possible.

If the KBAC group cannot buy 98.1, they can always get 102.9

Given KLBU's ratings plunge over the past year or so, Blu Ventures might be ready to cash in. The Chill format may have run its course.

I think the purchase price of KBAC/KSFQ will likely bring down the price of the Pecos move-ins. If memory serves me correctly, KBLU was sold to its present owners for one million. There's one listed right now for $1.5 million. I doubt they can get that - unless they find a trust-funder with more money than brains that wants to live the dream on Santa Fe.....

KBAC 98.1 will be Air1. KSFQ 101.1 will be K-Love

KBAC 98.1 will be Air1. KSFQ 101.1 will be K-Love. That is according to main studio waivers filed today with the FCC.

Air1 is one of my favorite formats.

From previous post "KBAC 98.1 will be Air1. KSFQ 101.1 will be K-Love. That is according to main studio waivers filed today with the FCC."

So there you go - time for the KBAC people to go to the 102.9 and 100.7 people. In KBAC's past, there was one year they did about a million dollars in business, before the change to the 104.1 signal. I wonder what their current sales are for them to be losing money? Especially as there has been no debt service - only payroll and operating costs. Anyone have any idea whats up? ???
