updates on CBS Radio 98.7 The Fan?

Impressive? Maybe being local 24-7, but the line-up is awful. Herrera? The Babe? Gary Shelton? Ok! I bet the Sports Animal is scrambling right now. Oops, I spelled laughing their asses off wrong.

Tell me about it.

I think Todd and Booger will be fun, but otherwise this lineup is very "meh".

Plus, no Bobby Fenton...or even Kraz or Toby David would've been good. How can they start up something like this with 24 hours of shows without looking to those guys?

Kraz just started at 620 and wasn't leaving. Toby David? No need to start a new station with that much negativity. Give it a chance. Morning show will be much more entertaining than anything this audience is used to hearing at that hour.

Agreed. You also forgot to mention the "voice of 'The Fan,' Lynn Austin" Meh.
I'm glad that USF Football and Basketball is being broadcast over FM though, that'll be nice.

So where is JP going to end up? And with 1010 simulcasting then switching to CBSSN, no more Dan Patrick show in Tampa? I will miss both of those shows.

Heard some of the first two shows today on Radio.com. Wright is a home run, he effortlessly slides in and out of topics and has amazing recall of games. Booger was a pleasant surprise as well, he sounds better than the average jock, certainly blows Ian Beckles out of the water, and there seems to be the potential for pretty good chemistry between Todd and Booger.

If you're not familiar with Kirk McEwen, he's a major league talent from the Baltimore-DC area, and it sounds like they're going to build a full morning show around him.

The Babe will be on overnights. Still betting that she will be the national overnight show when CBS' network kicks off.

Justin and Shelton will be up against Ron and Ian, who are terrible, and Jim Rome. In other markets CBS has found that anything local on FM beats a national show on AM very easily. Seriously, you should hear how bad the Fan in Pittsburgh is middays, they have two writers, one of whom has the worst New York accent in the history of radio.... and they are #1 with men 25-54.

This will do well, and bill like crazy. And 620 will probably also continue to do well also but with some erosion.

As was just stated, Kirk is major league talent from Baltimore. Has done mornings for a LONG time and was part of Kirk, Mark, and Lopez... a VERY successful morning show on 98 Rock BALTIMORE during the 1990's. Dinger is the wild card on that team. I really like Todd Wright. Perfect shift. The evenings is EXTREMELY weak with Rich Herrara.

The morning show will hold its own if not take over, the pro they brought in with a guy I like to listen to, Dingman, can take over from the newspaper guys on 620, and Commish and Shelton can compete against Ron & Ian (a love 'em or leave 'em show) for their first two hours, then against Rome for people looking for a local sports angle when something happens around here that isnt worth a mention on Rome. (Which happens a lot, I like his show but it is waaaay to West Coast)

After that IMO it gets a bit hairy. I've heard Booger on a few interviews on 620 with Deumig, he is good in spurts, but I don't know how he will hold up long term (Shaun King?). Rich Herrara from 6-10? Yikes. I didn't care for the guy as the Rays pre and post game guy, this might be too much too soon in this market for him. But I am willing to keep an open mind.

I hope for the best for them, but until they outbid 620 on Bucs/Lightning/Rays broadcasts, and put a little better talent in the chairs, it will be a scratch and claw battle

They got the rights to USF on their first day. So I wouldn't be suprised if 98.7 doesn't go after the pro teams for broadcasting rights similar to what they did with 93.7 up in Pittsburgh.

Hello. This actually sounds interesting. But how about the signal? Did CBS switch 98.7 to mono? I lived in Brandon for a few years and 98.7 did not have the best signal in that side of the area. Unless it was on car radios. It will be interesting to see what happens. I know talk is much different than music so I'll have to make a trip to Brandon and see how it does. I can tell you games sound much better on FM because the Magic here in Orlando comes on fm now.
