Ups and Downs in Rock & Roll

How about two from the same group?
"Money," Beatles
"Can't Buy Me Love," Beatles

Obviously, the first one not a Beatle original but an interesting choice to cover that one, given their opposite message when they wrote one for themselves.

when you're in love with a beautiful woman
If you wanna be happy, for the rest of your life........
Don't these two convey essentially the same message? Or am I missing something here? ???

In "If You Want to be Happy" his personal point of view was "Getting an ugly girl to marry you".

Right, but in "Beautiful Woman," the guy was always looking over his shoulders, afraid the other guys would make a move on his woman. If he had "gotten an ugly girl to marry him," he obviously would not have been concerned about that. ;D

I guess it all depends on your perspective.

There are a couple more examples that seem ironic in light of what later happened in those artists' personal lives. "When I'm 64" the Beatles. Paul didn't have anyone to "need him or feed him" when he hit the big 6-4 because he had announced his separation from Heather Mills the month before his 64th birthday.

And Shania Twain and her (then) husband Mutt Lange co-wrote "You're Still the One," which was a massive hit for her. Only problem is, Mutt and Shania are no longer "still the one" for each other. :'(

Couple of examples from the country chart, again both by the same artist:
"Killin' Time" and "No Time to Kill," both by Clint Black.

Long Cool Woman--Hollies
Short Fat Fanny--Larry Williams

It's Too Late--Carole King
