URBAN IS #1 & #2 IN CHARLOTTE

So what about billing there, chuckles? Interesting that those stations never seem to appear on top of the lists of top BILLING stations in the market. How do you 'splain this:

"WBT and WLNK are believed to be the top two stations in the region in advertising sales, with an annual combined billing estimated at $19 million, about 10 percent less than last year."

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2009/10/24/1017003/longtime-general-manager-leaving.html

I thought nobody around here was interested in anything but hip-hop-urban-rapilicious music. Advertisers haven't recognized your genius, it seems....

"WBT and WLNK are BELIEVED to be the top two stations in the region in advertising sales, with an annual combined billing estimated at $19 million, about 10 percent less than last year." -same article you just posted.

Believed means just the opinion of the person who wrote this article. Not fact. Sorry to burst your bubble.

If this person was so good, then he wouldn't have been released. LMAO! :D ;D :D ;D :p :p ;D :D

Actually what is maddening is the way you repeatedly duck questions when the answer is one you won't like.

So, again, what about BILLING?

Where do PEG and BAV rank?

I can make a lot of people WATCH me flinging stuff off a building, but will they pay?

I'll preemptively post this again for when you duck the question again...

But what about BILLING?

The reality of the situation is that NO DATA is collected on station billing. BELIEVED is an opinion word, you can't portray this as fact. FACT is that in LISTENERSHIP that URBAN is #1 & #2 in Charlotte.

He wasn't 'released'...He was offered a good bit more money to take a job in a bigger market. That is because he was very successful here.

It does not matter if the CBS Urban stations are #1 12+. What matters in revenue. You seem to think you know a lot. Look up the latest Miller Kaplan report and let us know where WPEG and WBAV stand as far as revenue is concerned.

OK, here's a FACT for you:

when the races were on WSOC in the fall, SOC was #2 - AHEAD of PEG. When the season ended and the races were no longer on SOC, PEG moved up to #2.

Funny how those facts and numbers and stuff work out, isn't it?

ok...here's a fact for you, before WFNZ got the races they had a 1.2, now they got a 1.0, funny how facts work isn't it? LMAO! WSOC rose to #2 for 1 book, but they've been getting their butts kicked consistently by WBAV and WPEG for YEARS! :D :D :D :D :D :D AND IT JUST WORKS YOUR LAST NERVE DON'T IT!! LMAO!!!! :D :D :D :D

Do you have any idea how the ratings work? This latest book is for November, December and January. The races did not start on WFNZ until mid February....

Arbitrends, wrong word, who cares? Get a life, you know what I mean. Facts are facts, and the fact is that URBAN RUNS CHARLOTTE MARKET AND IT DRIVES YOU CRAZY!!!! #1 & #2!!! MARKET LEADERS, HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS, YOU CAN'T COMPETE!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D URBAN FORMATS REIGN SUPERIOR OVER ALL YOUR FORMATS!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Really? You're comparing flamethrower FM signals to a walkie-talkie strength AM?

Again...you keep ducking billing and can't seem to grasp ratings at all.

I already DISMISSED revenue as an arguement, go read previous posts. Not really difficult to understand. Go look at the ratings page of this website, the facts are clear WBAV V 101.9 is #1 and WPEG Power 98 is #2. Right there black and white. Ratings declined on WFNZ is the point. As I said before, URBAN DOMINATES! DON'T BE MAD YOU CAN'T COMPETE! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D I love being right.....

If you knew anything about ratings you would know that Urban station's diaries are weighted. In other words Arbitron more or less guesses how many people listen to Urban stations. The PPM won't have those weighted diaries. June or July we will have a better idea how many people actually listen to the CBS Urbans.

Revenue is always an argument. I don't care how many people say they listen to WPEG or WBAV. The bottom line is the bottom line. Ever try to eat a ratings book? Ever try to exchange a ratings book for a car, rent, etc? You can not employ people just because you have ratings. Does not work.

As you like to say, it is a Fact, Urban stations do not generate revenue. WNKS makes way more money than WBAV. Some months WFNZ makes more money than WPEG. Those are facts. Right there in black and white.

Ratings might make you feel good but in the end revenue is more important.

Dude if you're still bucking for a cubicle spot in CBS Radio's Urban Promotions Department, you're better off throwing on a zany costume [please, nothing offensive, maybe dress up like a lamp plug for Power or hold your arms up in a V, dag I just gave you more ideas than you had before] and carrying a sandwich board downtown than fighting the unbeatable foes on the internets.
Make sure you carry your digital camera with you, though, or CBS won't believe your stories. No one else does so far.

Oh yes, you can bet there is format bias and not just Urban. I can remember a time when a salesman at WSOC-FM was very happy to land the account of one of the big banks. At the time banks didn't buy ads on country radio stations. The man worked hard to get those ad dollars.

In PPM Urban might not be weighted by I read something that said they will be sending people into the field to make sure the Urban audience gets counted. How fair is that?

Ratings are a crock, always have been, always will be. They can't survey everyone so they come up with a guesstimate. As you said you can't eat ratings. Also talent can't survive on the low wages paid either. You can work for the #1 station in town ratings or billing and still make chump change. As they said in "Jerry McGuire" "Show ME the money".

Oh!! YOU already dismissed it. Well, that MUST settle everything then! If YOU declare it, it HAS to be true...right? I don't know HOW ANYone could argue with sterling logic like that... ::)

Wait, wait...lemme try.....

OK here goes.....

SEVERAL people have already DISMISSED the argument that ratings are more important than revenue. Don't be mad because people keep bringing up the stuff you keep ducking. I can DISMISS my bills, but it sure doesn't make them go away.

I remember when 3000 watt WQDW in Kinston was ALWAYS the number one station station in the Washington/Greenville/New Bern market, despite never actually getting a signal into any of those towns. It was the Only Urban Station in the market.

If you were Black, or a 'wannabe hip' White kid, you always wrote down QDW in the book, because you saw the Super Soul QDW spots on TV. The dairy was a joke back then, and it will continue to be a joke....

until PPM. The great truth detector.

By the way, the number one biller throughout the 70's and early 80's was elevator music WNCT.
