Urban Pirate Radio Birmingham

I heard them with fading along Lakeshore Dr., but in the clear in Mountain Brook by the Brookwood Village Mall tonight, but no ID's or jock chatter: just music.

I heard another pirate on 88.3 relaying XM's "G Unit Radio" channel and wonder if they're related.

Well, I *do* own a station, legally paid for it, went through (still do on a daily basis) all the FCC red tape and forms to get (and keep) it and rely on the listeners of the local area to support the advertisers that pay for my station.

I also feel that, if a pirate were to set up shop within my area of coverage and I had to start worrying because they were there, I'd need to seriously re-think being in the business!

If any self-respecting station owner thinks that a low-powered pirate station can do them any REAL damage, I'd say that station owner is very insecure in the abilities of his/her station and staff and shouls jump into another line of work ASAP because my own station would obviously be in some kind of sad shape to have to worry about some kids having fun.

I'd opt for sending someone else over to help them out technically.
______________

Actually (if utilizing currently required FCC spacings, 92.3 is a better choice:

ComStudy 2.2 search of channel 222 (92.3 MHz Class LP100) at 33-31-12.5 N, 86-48-07.5 W.

Now, if we eliminate the currently required third adjacency protections (as originally planned with LPFM and thwarted by the NAB and NPR), the best choice becomes 95.1:

ComStudy 2.2 search of channel 236 (95.1 MHz Class LP100) at 33-31-12.5 N, 86-48-07.5 W.

But, as you can tell, these are BOTH still severely short-spaced. (The column to look at is "CLEARANCE" on the far right.) This information is accurate as of 10/13/05 and is subject to change due to any subsequent filings with the FCC...
______________
