Used CCA Transmitter--What is it worth

CCA 1kw Transmitter on 1490. What is it worth. Where do you go on the net to find value for used gear? Any ideas? Thanks! PS Non-engineer here. Thanks for any assistance.

There are ham radio operators that would probably make you an offer on it. They modify them for the 160 meter band that is a couple of notches up on the AM band. Why not post it on QRZ.COM or one of the other ham sites.

Depends on age and condition. If it is servicable and not trashed, it is worth most to a station on 1490. I would get a list of all such stations (From Broadcasting Yearbook, etc.) and contact each of them, offering unit as a standby or main.
Expect $1,000 to $1,500...again, based on condition. Good Luck. JBI

The CCA is not a good candidate for conversion to the AM Ham bands. It is built very poorly and would require constant attention. The box is not worth much of anything. Your best bet is to list it on EBAY and see if anyone wants it. Collins, RCA, and Western Electrics are the AM transmitters to have. CCA's, CSI's, Harris, and some Continentals are just too much trouble to convert. As I recall in a CCA you can't see teh tubes glow, the whole purpose of converting them is for the sex appeal of the tubes glowing.....Oh and the warm tube sound, but the big thing is watching the tubes glow!

CCA's AM1000D wasn't all THAT awful, really. Last I heard, one I maintained here in Arizona (station's long dark) ended up at 1340 El Paso, where it's still in use. Bernie Wise didn't design or build junk.

Possibly alone among manufacturers, CCA sold this tube rig into the late 1990's. Tube transmitters continue to have more application in export, i.e. 'south of the border', applicatons.

There are a couple instances of 160 meter ham conversions online.

The AM1000D is not a bad transmitter at all. I still have 2 of these critters on the air every day as main transmitters for daytime only stations. With careful tuning I am getting better than a year on the 4-400 tubes. I seldom have any problem out of them. Yes I would like to have new solidstate transmitters in place of them but I also like being able to relax and enjoy the light show when a thunderstorm rolls through. I just would not want a solidstate transmitter without having a tube backup. Value? We bought one about 7 years ago used for around $2500 and it was in very good condition.

Thanks guys for your thoughts. I'll try Ebay and see what happens. As far as I know it was in good service when it was replaced by a solid state transmitter. Best wishes and Happy New Year!

WATV (I think were the calls) over in Birmingspam had a D model that was a hoss. The thing ran and ran and ran. Not a lot to go wrong with it, and no magic in it at all. I'd expect to be able to get it on 160 meters with just a bit of coil pruning and tuning. The build quality ain't bad, and the components are all pretty much off the shelf items. And plus, you can crow about the New Dual Sideband with Carrier modulation!!

That CCA 1KW on 1490 is listed on Ebay if you all know of anyone interested. Best wishes & happy new year!

I'm not familiar with tube stuff, is what you're hinting at is that tube transmitters are lightning proof?

His hint is a fact if you are on a poorly regulated service, or in deep rural area.
SS is great 95% of the time , but power irregularities and lightning are boogers!
