V99.3 and a few other ET observations...

Well after listening to V99.3, when I was up in Tyler-Longview over the weekend, I can honestly say I can see why SOME people would want to listen to it, but it is definitely not my cup of tea. I still think they could've done better with a mainstream Urban AC. Still looking for Access-1 to take care of that.

What's up with 100.3? What format are they running? I could barely hear it. And what is 103.1 running?

Could not tell much of a difference between "Sunny" and "The Breeze". Both were very enjoyable and better than most AC stations that I hear elsewhere. I think it was brought up on here before, but KFRO-FM's Legal ID is illegal. They are saying KFRO/Gilmer-Longview. It should be KFRO-FM/Gilmer-Longview. KFRO is KFRO-AM 1370, which is licensed to Longview and owned by Access-1.

I had 96X on for a little bit on Monday and I heard liners from "99.7 The Fox" and commercials from some area I'd never heard of. Does anyone know what's up with that? Today they were fine. The music on both 96X and 98 Rocks (KTAL/Shreveport) is predictable. Not too deep on the tracks.

I heard a 96.9, while I was in the Gilmer area, playing some decent country music. Does anyone know what station this is?

I kinda like V99-3. It's different. It's a rhythmic AC in case anyone was wondering. It sounds a little like the old Star 93.7 in Boston.

Snoman,
are you orginally from the Gilmer area?

I might know you.

> What's up with 100.3? What format are they running?

100.3 is running a Spanish AC format "La Brisa". It's still KXAL and licensed to Tatum.

I

103.1 is running talk radio.

Yup. Wonder how long that will last?
______________

No, I lived in Longview from '82 to '93, Kilgore from '93 to '95, and Tyler from '95-'97. My ex-girlfriend lives in Gilmer, but she's actually from Longview, too.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, but after listening to them about a week or two ago, I still gotta ask...What the hell were they thinking?! I'll hear a string of decent Urban AC titles, then they'll go into a Dido or Backstreet Boys song, followed by the sound of buttons being pushed all around East Texas. They really need to drop the mainstream AC altogether and clearly identify themselves as the only station in East Texas to hear "Old School Favorites and Today's R&B." If they're worried about taking audience away from "The Blaze", they need look no further than Shreveport where KVMA is doing a tremendous job without hurting their sister station KMJJ.

It's still not too late, though. The fall book will be starting soon, and they still have time to fix a few things. They better do it before Access One decides to really do it right, otherwise they're really gonna be screwed.

Speaking of Access One, it's been kinda quiet regarding KYKX. Still sucking?

No more calls, please. We have a winner.

And yes, KYKX is still sucking. I tried to listen when I was up there. I thought Paula Prince was gone, but she was doing midday. So, I guess I was mis-informed. I will also say KNUE was not much better. And, Gary Walker must have had a cold or something, because he sounded terrible. And, I've always been a big fan of his.
______________
