Vegas Tragedy: How did the networks cover it?

First, my condolences to all who have been impacted by this tragedy.

One of the important functions of this site, IMO, is how the media brings us stories like this. Here are a few items I observed today: (all times Pacific)

ABC, NBC, CBS all wall to wall most of the morning. However, CBS was the first to go back to local programming at 9AM, so "Harry" was on in my market. I don't know if CBS coverage continued and the affiliates had the option of carrying or not, but I have never heard of this happening. Price Is Right, (network) followed at 10AM. Evening network news will run a full hour on ABC, but again this could be optional for affiliates.

CNN, as expected was only focused on this story, while FoxNews did mostly the same but also briefly covered other stories. During FoxNews "The Five" (which recently returned to its original 2pm slot (5 pm eastern) was mostly serious but as this show tends to do there were moments of levity. Too soon?

So far my Directv lineup doesn't show any prime-time programming changes for tonight, nor do the actual network websites but that could change, either for tonight or tomorrow night.

Overall, good reporting by the major networks. And some excellent exposure of how the responders were the real heros.

CBSN went wall to wall with the Mass shooting in Vegas.

BBC News issued a Newshour podcast for World Service.

KLAS-TV the CBS Affiliate in Las Vegas went Wall to wall on the Newson app.

KXJZ-FM the NPR News/talk station in Sacramento went wall to wall with the Vegas shooting via NPR News and a KNPR staff member made appearances on NPR to make updates to local investigations to the mass shooting on the Strip.

TV Newser has an article with more information about the special programming for the programming services mentioned in the first message of this discussion.

Could you explain the last sentence?

Perhaps the use of the word "exposure" was wrong. All I was saying is there was some very good reporting of first responders being true heros.

Yes ABC and NBC were wall-to-wall, the former started in the middle of the night PT during World News Now. KIMA cut out for Harry in a national emergency...but maybe CBS had begun their coverage during the Overnight News and needed a break. They did interrupt the last half of Y&R for the moment of silence and then about 20 minutes of live coverage from Vegas.
NBC Nightly News was a whole hour tonight, and KNDU honored that change in schedule. Inside Edition devoted the whole broadcast to the tragedy.
59 dead, over 500 injured.

What I meant was the part about "first responders". Who were they and why did you refer to them as "true heros" (I believe you meant "heroes")?

First responders is a well-known term. Google it.

There's nothing wrong with adding the modifier "true" before a noun. Google it.

Weren't you banned once for nit-picking at other users grammar and word choice like this? It's a web forum, not The New Yorker, and we don't need our posts to look like they belong in that magazine.

KTNV the Scripps owned Station/ABC affiliate out of Las Vegas went Wall to Wall with the Mass shooting at the strip on their apps
Along with other local media outlets in Vegas area.

Is it too soon to discuss Gun Ownership? Wait, it's never a good time to discuss the "American Way Of Life"....

Was he going to a gun show? Why all the weapons and ammunition? Oh yeah. he needs them for hunting fish in a barrel......jeez

Like in all mass shootings in the USA its all about the NRA and connections to congress in certain states.

I won't react to this petty spelling/language critique. In fact, I was trying to answer Mario500's question. If I had a nickel for every spelling or grammatical error on this site, or any site... nothing to see here, move on.

Here in Hartford WFSB (CBS) and WTNH (ABC) carried network coverage til their local news started at 4:30AM. WVIT the NBC O&O blew out the first hour of their local news Monday morning. NBC had Matt and Savannah from The Today Show on at 5AM.

WFSB blew out Kelly and Ryan at 9AM with network coverage. WTNH blew out their local news at 9AM with network coverage. I don't know what happened after that. We went out just before 10AM.

Univision had coverage in espanol instead of the Spanish soap opera that normally airs at 6AM before their network morning show comes on at 7AM.
