Vikings-Giants game

So the Vikings and Giants have had their game rescheduled for Monday nigh in Detroit due to damage to the Metrodome in Minneapolis caused by the major snowfall in the area. But it will not be the "Monday Night Football" game on ESPN (Ravens-Texans was already scheduled).

Apparently the game will be shown locally in Minneapolis and New York. Any idea which stations will carry it? And are the NFL's blackout rules tossed out the window for a situation like this?

They should also put it on the NFL network. And if they're worried about ESPN's exclusive, they should play the game at 4PM.

The games is on WNYW-TV (FOX) channel 5 in New York, KMSP-TV (FOX) channel 9 in Minneapolis and KXLT-TV (FOX) channel 47 in Rochester, MN. Tickets for the game are going to be free and will be distributed after 9 AM eastern on Monday. Ticket holders for the original game will get priority over all others. As for the blackout rule, it won't apply, since the game was already a sellout in Minneapolis.

Question is...what about the Vikings' home finale next week against the Chicago Bears?

How about in Chicago, Detroit, or Green Bay?

The game will be available on Sunday Ticket nationwide. It will not be televised locally in Detroit - just NYC, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Rochester MN unless something changes between now and tomorrow.

The roof is expected to be repaired before next Monday's Bears game. If not, I would think that the University of Minnesota field could be made playable by that time.

I have a feeling that that is the end of the Metrodome.

BTW KEYC-DT2 Mankato has also been cleared by Fox to air the game (it's a subchannel of the CBS there, which is truly the only local station in the market!)

I had a flat tire last week...time for a new car?

No doubt this will amp up the talk about a new stadium (or a move) for the Vikings, but in the short term it seems certain that the roof will be fixed and the Dome will be back in service next week...just like in '83 and '86 when the roof last collapsed.

Typically, any market within the team's geographical zone will air the game. I'm sure the Duluth FOX station will carry it, and perhaps even places like Fargo.

It's a FOX game, but only shown in the various Vikings/Giants markets.

As for the other questions, TCF Field (the U of M stadium), holds fewer people, has a ton of snow on it that will take days to remove, and the Giants didn't bring outdoor gear. Otherwise, the U did say they could use it if it could be prepared in time.

And the Dome will likely be fixed by next weekend.

Does anybody remember if two NFL games have ever been scheduled in prime time before?

In 2005, a game involving the New Orleans Saints and the New York Giants were moved to NYC on September 19, delayed from the previous day, due to the Superdome still unavailable due to Hurricane Katrina and being unable to find alternate spots. The game was at 7:30PM ET, overlapping with the regular Monday Night Football game that night.

It also happened twice before that -- in 1987 (a Vikings / Broncos game moved from Sunday to Monday, due to Game 7 of the World Series involving the Twins), and 1997 (Dolphins / Bears, also involving World Series Game 7, this time with the Marlins at home).

Week 1 this past season with the Monday Night Football doubleheader. It was still prime time when the second game started for the west coast.

Excellent idea! :)

They're planning an NFL team in LA with a new stadium near Staples. I'm hoping a new team comes before then, starting out at either the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl.

This game could prove how many Angelinos would attend. ;)

Just NYC at this point. I have a hunch they'll end up putting it on NFL Network...not that it will help Time Warner customers any.

OK...here's what they say for people outside of NY and Minneapolis:

Fox will broadcast the New York-Minnesota game, now to be played in Detroit, in both teams' local markets at 7:20 ET.

The game also will be available as part of DirectTV's Sunday Ticket package.

NFL Network will re-air the game at midnight ET nationally in its entirety following the live game on Monday night.

The506.com, which is usually good at tracking this sort of thing, has added some stations to the list - in specific, Albany NY is now there:

NOTE: This game has been moved to Monday night in Detroit, and is currently scheduled to air on WNYW New York, KMSP Minneapolis, WXXA Albany, KQDS Duluth, KEYC Mankato MN and KXLT Rochester MN ONLY. It can be seen on Sunday Ticket elsewhere.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2010/12/giants_president_john_mara_say.html

Monday's game will be broadcast on Fox in the New York, Minneapolis, Rochester and Mankato, Minn., markets. It will also be available to subscribers of DirecTV's "Sunday Ticket." But Mara indicated there might be other arrangements in the works.

"I know they were trying to have some discussions to see what else could be done," he said.

I assume that Rochester isn't Scott's One True Rochester, but the one in MN already on the list. :D
