voice guy brian james

Industry websites are reporting that legendary voice man Brian James has died. Brian, of course, is the voice of 970 WFLA and many other stations from coast to coast. Sad news.

As of 4:10 p.m. today ...

* DCRTV.com: "Brian James Dies - 3/6 - DCRTV hears that local voiceover announcer Brian James has passed away. He'd been heard on the old Oldies 100, WBIG, and on talker WTNT. Plus, he was the voice of TV's "Extra." More soon....."

* ALL ACCESS is saddened to report that voiceover legend BRIAN JAMES has suddenly passed away from a heart attack at 4a this morning (3/6), at his home in SCOTTSDALE, AZ. More details, as soon as they are available.

* KZHT (Salt Lake City) is reporting the news, too:

"97.1 ZHT is sad to report that voiceover legend Brian James passed away from a heart attack this morning (3/6/09) at age 48. Altough 97.1 ZHT has featured a few different people as station voice over the years, Brian was "THE VOICE." No one ever lived up to the standards of who we like to now call "the king." We started out with Brian in 1999 and brought him back to serve as station voice until just a few years ago. Brian resided in Scottsdale, Arizona and is survived by his wife Kimberly, his son MAX, and stepdaughter Brooke. We will miss him dearly. We are however indebted to him for the major role he played as a part of building what is 97.1 ZHT today."

Very very sad. We've now lost two heavyweights in the V/O world in the last year. I cant remember his name but the guy that did all the movie trailers and now Brian (Mike).

I think the movie guy was Don LaFontaine...

Anyway, I was shocked and saddened to learn of Brian's passing. It was the talk of the CC cluster when I was there this morning. Brian not only was a great radio guy, he was always pleasant and even keeled. Whatever ego he had, was never worn on his sleeve. He was completely down to earth. It should also be noted that he did the v/o work for one of the station's in the Cayman Islands while I was down there. Great voice and great delivery will play anywhere.

Man, I hate making these kinds of posts. :'(

Hate to admit how years ago this was but I knew Brian (real name Brian) when he was a part time jock in Indiana (circa 1981-ish. It was amazing to see his career soar. What a shame to lose him at age 48. I hope they don't drop that incredible voice on WFLA. He was truly one of a kind.

Man, he was one of the very best. His sound shaped the image and attitude at FLA and he made it sound effortless.
