voice processing

for all who rely on processing through Cool Edit or Adobe Audition (or any other DE program you might be using) what processing settings are you using? I personally find for voice the best so far is the LIMIT SOFT -18db W/BOOST, and the CLASSIC SOFTKNEE. I am always looking to try out other stuff... does anyone know of any plug ins out there with more stuff?

When I am processing my voice through AA 1.5 I sometimes use:

Dynamics Processing - VocalComp1/2 +12dB1/2 Fast
DX Plugin: PSP Vintage Warmer (tweaked just right)
and others.

If I am trying to cut through even more, sometimes I'll go into the "Graphic Equalizer" and cut all the frequencies below "400"

Thats the basics!

Izotope Ozone is the best plug-in I have found for voice work. It would take all day to list the settings I use, but the basics are: 5:1 multiband downward expander at -60dB for lows, -40dB for mids and -30dB for highs. Multiband 10:1 limiter at -5dB. Multiband compressor, roughly 4:1-8:1. 6:1 above 7kHz (for de-essing). EQ cut below 75Hz. 4-6dB cut at 250Hz, 2dB cut at 400Hz, 2-3dB boost at 2.5kHz, 2-3dB boost at 5kHz. Slow downward slope beginning at 14kHz. MINOR hard limiting. I generally follow with the Waves RBass plug-in.

I hear the Wave Arts TrackPlug is really good too.

This may be an obscure plug-in--and an OLD one--but I get pretty good results with the compression that's bundled in EasyWaves (a DirectX plug-in). EasyWaves is a little three-way plugin from the late 90's. And, yes, the Waves in EasyWaves is the same Waves that offers the Gold, Platinum Waves Bundles, etc.

Do you have any idea where I could find this? I would be interested in tinkering with it.

I would check eBay from time to time... I would just e-mail you mine, but it's password activated... and I haven't been able to find the password in ages.

And here's a slight correction from my earlier post: It's EZWaves--not EasyWaves. It includes a Compressor, a Reverb, and an EQ. All are very simple. The Compressor only has two controls: one ranges from zero to 24 db and is labeled "Compression." And the other is labeled "Mode" with the two extremes being "open" and "tight."

The controls appear as knobs. I keep the Compression knob at 10 o'clock and the Mode at 2 o'clock.

Another sidenote: there's some mild compression and EQ on the mic pot in my board. This EZWaves plug-in beefs up the already existing compression on the microphone--a good ole Shure SM5B.

My vote for a plug-in Mic Processor?

WAVE ARTS' "TRACK PLUG"

www.wavearts.com

It is a great plug in and offers a gate/expander, compressor, and full featured EQ..really well thought out system. We use it a lot.

This month it's 99 bucks

Yes. Take the "Great!" setting and change the comp ratio to 3:1. Leave all the other settings alone. Change the output to 12dB. Be sure you change the band Limiting to 20Hz-20000Hz

That works well.

EQ after you compress.

Parametric EQ is good. Use the Mackie High Boost.
