So who are some of the voices on LA radio? Who does the liners for KRTH for instance??

At KRTH - the longtime voiceover talent of the legendary - Charlie Van Dyke.

I know I'm veering from the topic a bit, but I am wondering if anyone knows any reputable Broadcast Talent Agents who can help with a new gig?

There is an article in which Shotgun Tom Kelley, who was very successful as a voiceover talent in San Diego, talks about how it was impossible to get voiceover gigs in LA because LA talent buyers absolutely not want DJ's: they want voice actors. As the article says, "Don Elliot, a commercial veteran said that agents don't like untrained radio people on spots. “Most script direction on auditions specifically say, ‘No Radio-types,’"

Shots said it took him four years to finally break into it and that was only after getting formal instruction, hiring a voice coach and unlearning everything he'd done in a few decades of prior voiceover work.

Saw that one too and he's absolutely right. Even lightweight actors have a better chance at getting a gig in VO than the best radio talent. Saying you have any experience in radio to these casting people is the kiss of death. I do image voicing and recently was told that I sound too much like an announcer. So I had to adjust. I even had to take my voice up an octave or two. Actually, if I sound like I don't care, they love it.

Boomer, now there's a heavyweight. Likely he's out of the biz

Boomer is still doing voice work, not just radio. He does a lot of national stuff, most notable for Directv Pay Per View, the prefight hype promos. Dont know why he's not on the air somewhere in LA, cuz id rather listen to him than some of the "talent" in this city. Probably a little biased, cuz he's a homie.

i fully agree. :).the boomer is a los angeles radio icon.i mostly listen to all of my old power 106 tapes now that i dont hear the boomer on the air anymore.movin 939 did a huge mistake by getting rid of him .....

yes he did.i chatted with carry stele one time about the boomer joe servantez.she told me he was one of the best broadcasters she has ever worked with.does anyone know what voiceover company he works for?? :)

Best broadcaster, he's a flake who can't even show up for work on time. "Cause he's a homie"
huh, of course if someone said I like this guy's work "cause he's an anglo" we'd never hear
the end of it.

Kari Steele is a nice lady, but as radio is a small world I doubt she would say anything bad about someone she worked with except for maybe a certain former KBIG midday guy who works across town now. But since the Boomer has a decent rep, I doubt there would be anything bad to say about him.

Um, if he's an icon, what about Jim Carson, or any of the current air talent in LA who have been here longer? He's a nice guy and a competent jock, but I don't know about being an "icon"

Hey Doublecash, I used the word "homie", as in Homeboy...a close friend. I dont know what you read into it, but it was nothing more than that. Not showing up on time? He's anal about getting to anywhere hes appearing at or on the air, an hour early for show prep, so I dont know what your talking about? Unless you've worked with him and have a personal story that we should all here about?

No reason to play a race card. Can't we just say "they guy's a puker," and move on? ; )

RadioActive...as for him being a puker? You must be confusing him with someone else. He was never a boss jock, and those guys were pukers, talented yes, but pukers nonetheless.

Regarding the Icon thing. We (Boomer and I) have had this discussion alot, and he never uses this term to describe himself. And for some reason, some people think he's some kind of ego maniac, and thats the farthest from the truth. If you've ever met any listner of his, that has met him, they all say that he's the nicest guy, and they thought he would different. To this day, where ever we go, he's recognized for his voice, yet he has'nt been consistantly on the air for a while now (short stint on Movin, and short stint on KBIG). The only bad thing I can say about him, is that he has a bad habit of forgetting peoples names, but you cant blame him for that. People come up to him, and say:
"Hey, you're the Boomer! I met you at Power House 1, and you gave me a shirt and a sticker, I'm (enter name here), remember me? And this happens alot. Humble, hes not, just very sure of himself, cocky even. But who in here isnt confident of their work?

Hey I'll be the first to admit when I am wrong, and I'm wrong, it was a different guy
that I worked with in LA briefly. Not Boomer, my apologies.
