W241cg 96.1

So is this translator real stereo yet? I heard "Na Na Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" last night and both channels were audible, but I really couldn't detect much separation. Are they still feeding mono to both channels and calling it stereo?

The fidelity does sound better than it did in the past, to their credit. I do hear some separation, depending on the song.

BTW, how come the liners (sweepers?) on the 96.1 FM translator only mention 990 AM and 96.1 FM? What about 1180 AM from Rhode Island and 1270 AM from Springfield?

At least the variety is better than what I hear on WDRC-FM 102.9 HD2!

Although they're all playing the same music and have the same 3 voice-tracked jocks, all 3 stations are now being programmed separately. I don't know if they installed a computer on Old Turnpike Road in Plantsville (Southington) or if it they put it in Glastonbury with Radio 104.1 and Bomba. They're now running separate commercials. WACM 1270 has CBS News updates while 96.1/990 has news updates from an unknown source (but it sounds like an internet stream). No longer relying on COX Internet with 990/96.1 they were able to avoid running dead air for 8 hours last Monday (the 9th) when COX Internet went down.

The KOOL Radio Stream is also different (at times). On Sunday they were playing music with Michael Maze voice-tracking on 1270 AM while on the stream they had different music with Lisa Sinclair Voice-Tracking. When 96.1/990 joined KOOL Radio at 2PM on Sunday they were running the music with Michael Maze voice-tracking like 1270. The stream also mentions WACM, WNTY, WSKP, and WBMW HD 3 in the TOH ID, but not the translators.

Lisa Sinclair read a promo for a new Ray Mills show Friday -- I think she called it Ray Mills' all-request dance party. Same time slot as the old request show, Saturday night at 7. Is Ray really back, and if so, will he be permitted to play all oldies or just '70s and '80s disco/dance music?

KML-224,

I hear the same liners, breakers & sweepers on 96.1 & 990.

Think they mention 96.1 & 990 because they're targeting the Hartford mkt.

UPDATE: No sign of Ray. Radio-on-the-cheap Red Wolf must be recycling Sinclair voicetracks from several weeks ago.

They're not running old voice-tracks. My guess is that no one told her that the show was canceled.

Anyway my belief is that 96.1/990 is operating out of New London Turnpike in Glastonbury like WMRQ and BOMBA. Friday morning in the middle of a song they abruptly switched to BOMBA for 15 seconds and then switched back. The phone number they're giving out for the contest 464-1132 belongs to WMRQ even though it's a Ledyard number and WMRQ's request/contest line is a Glastonbury Number 657-1041.

Anyone notice what a trainwreck 96.1/990 is this afternoon Sunday May 22nd? The taped Lutheran Church Mass ran long and at 2:05PM they went to Dead air. At 2:10PM the Church Mass came back on. At 2:15PM they switched to Greatest Hits USA a syndicated show. I had them on again around Ten Minutes to 3 and they were running KOOL 1180/104.3 instead. Then they abruptly switched back to Greatest Hits USA joining the song "American Pie" in progress. Then their regular hourly news update at 3PM and the regular WNTY and W241CG Southington Legal ID.
