W244AS Off Air

Explains why wired was bleeding through on 96.7. Rain is not that bad here in Oakhurst tho.

It is for sale.
If WNYC could buy the freq., The range would be permenantly increased for the new Q. The guy's got a gold mine in that signal.

That is if it is determined it is inside the contour of the B1 signal.

What happened to the origional tower the antenna was hanging off?

No longer a concern, now that WQXR is a noncommercial license. A translator of a noncomm signal can be outside the main signal's protected contour. It still has to be fed off the air if it's in the "non-reserved" (92-108) band, but there are two ways of doing that at Oakhurst: either over-the-air reception of 105.9, or make W244AS a translator of WNYC-FM's HD2.

1.)If true, they could have a 'QXR network 2nd to none to blanket the whole fam damily. What would stop them?

2.) Can an HD-x, have a main channel translator?

1) Just the physical limitations of receiving the WNYC-FM HD signal...well, that and the relative scarcity of available translators to buy. And the difficulty of promoting a station that appears at 17 different spots on the dial.

2) Yes. It's being done mainly in small markets right now - Ithaca and Keene, NH for instance.

though it's also been used recently to create a new station here in Nashville. W271AB carrying WPRT-HD2 with a black gospel format, "101.9-102.1 The Light". (101.9 being a Clarksville translator carrying an AM station...)

That explains how WJIS is able to blanket the west central Florida with so many translators. Their TOH ID is littered with call signs. From Citrus County to Collier (Naples).

Millennium Radio should buy 96.7 and put Shore Alternative on it.

WHTG-AM was thinking of buying it but the owner wants too much money for it.

It would undoubtedly increase the range in every direction except Bahr's Restaurant, "ever at the bridge in Highlands."

In my opinion, Shore Alternative should be on the 100.7 translator (W264AM) filling the alternative void in Ocean County instead of having the HD and 96.7 simulcast within the same area.  Hey, since Greater Media is broke, why not sell the translators  ;)

Mickey, do you know the price that was said by the owner that Press turned it down?

I am not going to turn this topic into an insane "it should be this" format, but why not "nuke and pave" and make 96.7 it's own independence, or, if somehow the rules can change and allow Internet streaming be translated, then why not try out a format that needs to represent the shore's vibe? At least for Hit 106, yes, it does collide with Z100, 92.3, and KTU, but do you see any of the NY stations come down the shore other than the summer? I was in attendance for the "march to summer" party and was amazed at how many were in attendance. This is what the shore is lacking for a period of time, a local station going out to nightclubs, playing the music to keep you energized all year long. Look, I'm not going to brag about how 967party.com got some heads up, but the reason it was launched was because the shore is a hot spot for entertainment, and especially this summer with all the "situations" and "snooki" wannabes, beach house rentals up nearly 60% (stated on NJ 101.5) and the clubs making revenue, I don't see why this format can land on FM or even HD for that matter.

I have no idea what they wanted for it. I heard from someone at the station that they looked into it.

Rules are not flexible, if they are, they are unenforcable and irrelevent. I like a "do nothing" Congress, they take less freedom and money away from each of us.

There are certain standards to be applied to roads and airways, but members of Congress are completely clueless as indicated by the 3 or 4 turn off dates for analog TV.

TV just switched to digital, and I might add an inferior system. The government spent almost a trillion dollars on converter boxes and today the FCC announced by 2015 they plan on taking TV spectrum. No more free TV!
