W288BJ 105.5 to Memphis First Ventures

W288BJ 105.5 goes to Memphis First Ventures

Memphis First has also filed a STA to build out the new facility.

I would expect this to be the FM home of 830 KOTC when it hits the air.

I would try hard to get that thing at the top of the channel 3,5, 10, or 13 tower if it were my call. It would sing almost like a class A and cover desirable parts of town.

I wonder what sort of protection would be required to Marianna, Ar on 105.3 if any?

5 would be exposnsive. The first 700 or so of that tower is still the 790 daytime radiator. They'd have to buy couplers and do a proof, probably. I'd go with 3, or a Flinn tower if there's capacity.

I'm sure Flinn would rent space on the WTWV tower cheaper than any of the TV stations. Maybe the could diplex with 103.1 on the KNO tower. Of course that Antenna will have a slight null toward Jackson to deal with.

According to the application, moving further east will be an issue. They already have slight overlap with WGKX.

Of course, they might NOT care. If 103.1 ends up in their laps, the current site will complement the 103.1 sight. But, this is conjecture.

Note, too, that the CP is showing as CANCELLED in the FCC database -- that's probably fixable.

I saw that and wondered what that was about I figured something new would get filed or it would show back up corrected. I see the tower the new site is on every day so maybe we will know when they hang an antenna up there.

Memphis First file the license renewal on 4/9.

for status this was entered:

"WHEN THIS TRANSLATOR WAS ACQUIRED ON MARCH 2, 2012 BY MEMPHIS FIRST VENTURES, LP (MFV), THE STATION WAS NOT OPERATING. MFV PLANS TO INITIATE OPERATIONS IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND AT THAT TIME WILL AMEND THIS APPLICATION TO DESIGNATE THE PRIMARY STATION AND RESPOND TO THE OTHER RELEVANT QUESTIONS."

On the air simulcasting 830 which is simulcasting 95.3 the Rebel.

830 took new the calls of WUMY also.

So what will the format of My 105.5/830 be?

The original point of the AM/translator combo was to get 95.3 into the city with at least a somewhat better signal, so seemingly they're finally doing what they set out to do. And yet the "My" branding obviously does suggest something different. Before the AM finally left Kennett for good, when they were basically just keeping it on the air enough to hold the license, they were calling it "My 830," and running a mix of syndicated talk and jockless music, so who knows. But if they do that, what happened to the desire to try to make 95.3 at least somewhat competitive in Memphis proper?

I'll give them this much; if the translator is where it's supposed to be, the signal to the south is far better than I expected. Which makes me wonder if it is or not.

It's on the air and does not have the coverage they probably hoped it would. The signal is mostly south of downtown and very little building penetration. I drove around cordova and germantwon and a lot of skip and interference. Not to mention the horrible mono sound from the primary AM 830. Someone might suggest that they still have to legal ID that translator. As of today they were not!

Palmer Johnson came to town :)- I could have married him a few years ago, ya know.

The stereo light is on but it is not in stereo if it is rebroadcasting AM 830. Mono in mono sound out.

Haven't listened to it myself and, thus, can't say for sure. However, an FM translator that's rebroadcasting an AM can be fed directly instead of via the AM signal.
