I can tell you yes the stereo pilot is on.. and yes the the material coming out of the left and right speakers is not identical. There is currently dead air but when music was playing it was in stereo.
Most car stereos of the past few years have a hi-blend feature on them that reduces the highs and often blends to mono when a signal becomes weak. You may be too far away to hear it in stereo. I can visibly see the top 50ft of the tower at my QTH and have fully quiet reception of W288BJ.
105.5 is not required to broadcast its audio direct off air from 830 therefore it can broadcast in stereo. Just as stated before on here 105.5 does not go off the air at night.
With all the money their spending on new staff, logo changes, and TV ads they probably can't afford to keep it on the air. I think their to fixated on WGKX.
It sounds good in their strong coverage area which is within the 240 corrider leaning more towards downtown. It will penetrate cars but not building and houses outside of that area. Unfortunatly that is not where most of the CLASSIC COUNTRY listeners live. Most of those zips are going to be black neigborhoods. This is the very problem that 95.3 has, Penetration!
Yeah I agree. They must have good rent on the WLOK Tower. I would have tried to get it out on a Tower in Cordova somewhere. I could hear 105.5 in Benton County MS the other day. I really didn't expect to hear it that far out especially with 2 distant 105.5's out there to clobber it.
I've noticed 830 on the last couple of nights. I'm not far from the WLOK site, but it sure sounds like they're forgetting to power off, not using those 2 watts.
I couldn't tell you how much power they were running, but I heard a clear legal ID (including the translator) and a few minutes of music on my car radio around 9:30 last night.
Oh, I was in downtown Nashville...
