For the record, it's Worcester (NOT Worchester). One of my pet peeves. Lol

As of the 2000 federal census, Providence regained the rank of 2nd largest city in New England dropping Worcester to #3. Worcester & Providence have traded places since early in the 20th century. By the way, both cities recorded gains in their populations from 1990 - 2000. The same cannot be said about the largest cities in Connecticut. As far as Metro areas, Worcester falls back to 7th or 8th place due to the absence of large suburban cities which surround many of the cities in Connecticut.

>Actually, Wocester is the second largest city in ALL of New England, not just Massachusetts.<

Actually, that's wrong. According to the 2000 census, Providence is #2, bumping Worcester to #3.

US Census Bureau figures

Worcester

2000: 172,648
2004 (estimate): 175,966

Providence

2000: 173,618
2004 (estimate): 178,126

Estimated figures are based on current population trends, not actual counts.

Ditto .. mine stinks now, too. I am about to delete it as well! Kind of bummer, my hubby and I enjoyed listening to them from time to time. (Like when Stephen Wayne is on WCCC -- ick!)

I still hear it, but it's nowhere near the former blowtoarch status they've held for years.
