EMF doesn't get a say. They won't even own the station until the Spring.
The closing will be in the Spring. EMF starts this Saturday (2/22). Amen.

Did Jesus give them all their money? Doesn't EMF use the Bernie Madoff playbook? How come Satan Worshipers don't get equal time? WKRP in Cincinnati had an episode about a "Wrestling Evangelist" who sold various religious items on his show. It was hilarious...
Haven't you heard of the "prosperity gospel"? The first proponent of "Jay-zus wants you to be filthy rich, and I can help if you send me money" I remember was that holy grifter Reverend Ike. His spiritual brother of another color, Joel Osteen, has an entire SiriusXM channel to himself now.
All joking aside, I will be watching to see where he and Carrie wind up. Adam 12 and Chuck Nolin did make some class act replies to the news of WAAF going away. In Adam 12's case, he never even worked for the station. I hope both Hsu and Carrie find homes in Boston or NH between WBOS, WZLX or one of the NH iHeart stations.
No more so than public radio or college stations doing the same thing (i.e. WCRB, and the former WBRU) to boot!
K-Love is not is not in it for the money. They are a very shrewd broadcaster. That is probably held out from buying a station from Entercom during the initial divestures. Either Entercom was asking for too much, or it just didn't make financial sense for EMF to buy into the Boston at the time!
Too funny! Definitely right up there with the WKRP turkey drop ... "as God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
Not too many years earlier, I had a GM just like Arthur Carlson ... often befuddled. I was PD at the time. I kid you not ... the AM was full service/adult contemporary and the FM was paid religion from 6 am to 6 pm (yep) and country from 6 pm to midnight. On Sundays, most of the day was paying bible thumpers, in and out, to go on the air live ... often complete with piano and singers. You can't imagine how much money those people paid the station for these broadcasts. Believe me, it was a license to print money!!
What I find rather unique is there tends to be a true hatred of Christian radio when it displaces a format and it's listeners. But I find if you dig a little deeper, the 'Christian' hatred is of the same groups a typical Christian would say is not even close to what they feel Christianity is. In fact, you'd never know who these people are because they're not compelled to brag about it much less condemn or even espouse claims (ie: the old XERF style preachers...one of which responded this way when the jock at the time asked what the difference was in the $25 and $75 donation. The preacher said "fifty dollars").
I can only speak for myself. I find my issue to be the implication of asking for money in the name of Jesus. Now, to be fair, I am comparing EMF to the likes of a Jim Bakker. That is more than likely not fair. Still, I believe that unfortunately many of the past evangelicals give everyday people a bad taste when they think of a media outlet asking for money in the name of Jesus.
Last week on my local K-LOVE affiliate/translator, all I heard was 'we need money for our fundraiser...can you help us? We've got 3 spots left at $50 a month, can we just get those 3 filled? Oh there goes one! Two spots left! $50 a month! We'll send one lucky listener to Disney World!' For several minutes at a time. No music, just begging.
Which is why I support the regional and local CCMs if I do listen to that music.
One thing for WAAF is the competition. Prior to big time FM sports stations, rock radio did very well in the ratings and competed hard against one another. But sports radio came along and shifted many of those listeners away from the rock formatted signals and that shows in the overall ratings today. CBS Radio had other options available to them in 2009, namely WODS which could have been the Sports Hub, but instead they chose WBCN realizing this fact then. And WODS ultimately fell to Top-40 not really long after WBZ-FM's debut. And more recently, Entercom made the ultimate choice with WEEI, moving Hill there and all taking a chunk of his listeners from WAAF to WEEI. True their signal was of issue, but it always was ever since they pointed their format to the Boston market and they did well for many years in ratings. Case in point, Boston had a lot of rock stations to choose from: WBCN, WFNX and WCOZ and metro rock signals WCGY and WAAF; WCGY was easy to get in the city even if it was from Andover, but all of those are gone now.
One question: Could EMF move WAAF back to Paxton with the same signal? That would leave the Channel 27 in Boylston without a tenant as the TV operations moved east to Needham.

EMF programming is in poor taste. The fact that so many people are duped by these hucksters shows a serious character flaw in Americans. EMF is happy to "relieve their listeners of their money"...
It sounds like you haven't listened. This is not a preaching radio station. It's a music station.
So, in essence in what you are saying is that the well albeit tight programming that EMF, and what other Christian Music stations play is worse than say "The Bull" per instance then?
This thread is kind of on the crazy train right now but that takes the cake.
Of course K-Love is in it for the money. That's the whole reason for all of this. The fact that some of their donors think it's about anything else is just nuts.
