WAAZ has something new ?

I visited the station a few times when I was a wet-behind-the-ears radio rookie back in the late 70s and remembering feeling like I had stepped into a time warp. The equipment at the time was vintage, but every bit of it looked like it had come right out of the box and as the other guys said, those floors were spotless! I was helping a friend with a syndicated show and called the station about a year ago and Joe Dunn answered the phone. I had gone to junior college Joe back in the day and he's still there!

I love the fact that WAAZ is there and that Jim Whittaker is doing things his way and I hope that never changes! He's what radio is really all about!

They modernized.. not a big deal, what if the owner of the station doesn't want to be in radio? If Clear Channel buys the station (does Cumulus own too many stations here??) and decide to convert it to an all sports station and move the stick to Hollywood..(look how well 98.1 the ticket did) and keeping braves baseball and local HS sports on.

I agree, the old style of radio is great.. but I don't see too many listeners glued to AAZ except for baseball. We got way too many country stations in the area already. 98.1's signal goes beyond Crestview and they play some old country.

Proof's in the pudding Rob. IMHO if Mr. Whittaker gets to the point where he's not making enough money he'll sell. Otherwise he'll keep doing what he's doing. When you have a family owned business you either make money or you don't and he's been doing his thing for quite a while. I'm also quite sure that he's been offered some serious money to sell...that's all guesses of course, so take it for what it's worth....

Mr. Whittaker seems to be doing well with Braves - hearing the ads there makes you think that he is doing something right. The move to stereo would only make it sound better.

I miss the vinyl they used to play - I hope they don't ditch the turntables!

I hope so, at least in wav files and not mp3s you lose a lot of quality especially in the "Sunday Morning Brunch" segment (or whatever you call it) when they break out the old elevator music. The stereo separation is awesome despite the music puts you to sleep. The old days of FM used to be like that. If you guys want elevator music, listen to wave 101 out of naples (and they do stream)
