WABC interrupts Rush for... Lindsay Lohan News???

Did the news department over there really think that Rush's listeners really needed his show interrupted for that?? No wonder there are rumors that the show may go to another station once the contract is up.

I also heard this great one too:

(News Sounder)

"Here's the latest from ABC news...

Big speech from the President today about immigration but first this breaking news: Actress Lindsay Lohan has been taken to the hospital, she was found collapsed in her hotel room....."

And then at the end of the newscast,

"We now have a report that she is back on the set of her movie. Daria Albinger, ABC news."

Well, if this doesn't sum up what's wrong with the "news", nothing does. And this was on NATIONAL ABC news!!!!!! I would have expected this from FM News, not WABC and also ABC news. This is taking into account that their top of the hour newscast is a little over the top and schlocky. most of the time.

I lean conservative, but I really like NPR's top of the hour newscast. It's NEWS. Things that are important around the country and world. Though some of their shows may have a liberal bias, the top of the hour news is so straight down the middle of the road and neutral that it's refreshing to listen to.

Priorities...

Who is she, again?

Lindsay Lohan is good if its TMZ radio hourly news but not for ABC News. I know Cumulus O&O KGO-AM and WYAY-FM did talk about immigration policy that congress and President Obama as the breaking news.
I listened to CBS News, WCBS880, WINS-AM 1010 and KCBS-FM 106.9 in San Francisco and they all had breaking news from President Obama over immigration policies leading to the "dream act".

OK we don't need Harvey Levin's crew or Rupert Murdoch's tabloid division crew to obsess her every second of the day. Remember Last Year when Amy Winehouse died. I wondered why did it even make the top stories here in this country? I don't know who she is. All I know is that Murdoch and Levin like to have stories where she is in Rehab.

Levin runs TMZ, a Hollywood fan-type "news" service. This story would be of interest to viewers of TMZ.

Murdoch supposedly runs a real news service (*cough*). He loses credibility every time he airs that type of story.

ABC News is useless.

Remember last year when ABC News led off their TOH newscast with a Tiger Woods story, as opposed to a war somewhere? That drew the ire of the NYRMB.

I noticed tonight's ABC Evening News had a feature story on the tightrope walker at Niagra Falls (which aired, I believe, on ABC last night).

Nothing like making sure your viewers see the program one way or the other.

It was ABC's way of dropping a bone for Market#76.

But Murdoch has been seen as a Jekyll and Hyde Character. In the USA Murdoch is accused of being a propagandist because of Fox News Tea Party Lean. But in the UK people see Murdoch as a Harvey Levin type figure.

Overall, I don't really have much problem when a newscast overplays something happening at that moment -- especially on a story that would be of general interest (albeit inconsequential to society in the grand scheme of things). Sometimes, "now" is "news."

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, of course, the breaking news status accorded to the story clearly was ridiculous. But let's be honest ... anyone even remotely aware of pop culture expects LiLo will be found dead in a hotel room or at a Hollywood nightclub or on the back lot of a movie set someday soon. Depending on the information they had, maybe ABC had reason to believe this was that occasion. I've worked in enough newsrooms to know that it's pointless to second-guess another news organization's initial reaction to breaking news. What they do with it later is open to criticism.

What I want to know, though, is whether ABC really got information that changed the story during the newscast, during that tiny five-minute window ... or if the producers ignored the rest of the story for the sake of a titillating lede to a newscast. Obviously, that would be a problem. How did they handle it on subsequent newscasts?

C'mon! It isn't like Rush has anything RELEVANT to say anyway......

The only time I listened to WABC was when rocky allen was moved there. I always got SO Annoyed that he'd be talking one minute, and then some pointless news cast broke in. I mean, couldn't they have waited for a scheduled break or something? The hosts must love this 'service ' as well.. Nice to see they don't do stuff like this for just his show when it was on.. how do listeners put up with that?

I could understand them breaking into programming to announce that Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston died, but not someone as meaningless as Lindsey Lohan. And definitely for Obama announcing a new immigration policy that directly affects some listeners who can now rejoice that they won't be deported. Obama's announcement has major implications for the election, but who cares about the waste of skin known as Lindsey Lohan (who should have been in jail right now given her criminal record).

Thank you for listening to WCBS 880, Recto. We appreciate it.

I would expect that from someone with the "handle" of "bongwater".

Murdoch publishes the worst "newspapers" in the English-speaking world.

Celebrity worship is exactly what is wrong with the "news" media in this country. It seems that these people are trying to emulate the National Enquirer, rather than the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune. And they are the same people who think that Barbara Walters and Rhona Barrett are "journalists". This country is going to hell in a handbasket and all these people care about is a third-rate actress?

If you think the New York Post is bad, now, you should have read it BEFORE Murdock bought it.
