WABC's audio stream

Since last Thursday (maybe before) the WABC-77 audio stream http://player.streamtheworld.com/_players/citadel/?sid=826 has been dropping commercial sets over other commercials and over programming content (i.e. the additional audio plays simultaneously.)

Now, I now the usual apologists will find an excuse, but I'm wondering if this might not be a precursor to a new scheme to maximize the bottom line by selling the same inventory twice? Hell, if nobody is listening anyway, the staff is asleep or not being paid enough, or whatever, why not? In fact why not sell the same weekend blocks of air time to two different advertisers and let them run simultaneously? If that's successful they could triple-sell the time. Think of the money that could be made!

Your link is to a StreamTheWorld player, which isn't really part of WABC. It's run by Triton Digital. Maybe they're asleep at the wheel.

Probably so. I notice WABC's website no longer has a "Listen Live" button. Guess they figure listeners will find them on TuneIn or iHeart.

The Cumulus Way.

From what I was reading, Cumulus has a deal with Rdio.com for streaming. Don't know if WABC is on their service yet. The press coverage implies that it is.

The big red "Listen Live" button is in the top right corner. Next to the Facebook & Twitter icons.

This appears to be a new web design. Perhaps they're not finished with it yet.

Have you tried listening on TuneIn and see if the same problem appears?

Ha! Adblock Plus was blocking all three icons at the top right of the home page. Thanks for pointing them out.

The "Listen Live" button resolves to http://player.listenlive.co/25211 which is the same as TuneIn's link. iHeart Radio's link is http://www.iheart.com/live/77-wabc-5349/.

Now that I think about, it I stopped using the TuneIn link because I could no longer tolerate the endless stream of outdated "Jennifer Wilde with Tech Trends," "The Core," and other obnoxious filler, so I bookmarked the StreamTheWorld link. I have a much higher tolerance for commercials ... in fact I often enjoy them ... just not two at a time! ;-)

Maybe I'll try the iHeart stream.

PS: (OT) I'm also not opposed to internet ads -- but I do try to avoid in-your-face animated or interuptive ads that ruin the content experience. According to this article in the NYTimes: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/20/t...-nuisance-at-the-heart-of-the-modern-web.html ... the involved parties may be working together to set reasonable online ad guidelines as the use of ad blockers explodes and will soon reach critical mass. I suppose that's really a subject for a different forum although Cumulus and others are very much involved in this.

The new WABC site has a nice clean look, BTW.
