If there is no alternative, that may work on AM for the 35+ audience. However, Hispanic usage of smartphones is higher than that of non-Hispanic whites and there are plenty of different Regional Mexican formats being streamed.Is anyone in NYC going listen to music on AM?
Oddly WADO is doing the same thing it’s spurned purchaser Latino Media Network is trying in DFW and Houston: A music format on AM, which will certainly flop.
It remains to be seen what kind of "Regional Mexican" format is applied to WADO. Within that very artificial construct of a name (and one that is not actually used in Mexico itself) there are at least a half dozen viable format variations. If WADO uses a smattering of current hits and lots of gold, including Vicente and the big ranchera artists, I would project greater success.
However, what I expect is a bunch of the tired Televisa/Univision talk-filled shows that play only the newest of the new artists and which promote heavily artist shows and appearances. That is not a good AM format, even in those markets where there is no Spanish language FM.
