WAIT AM 850?

The wikipedia article for WJIB has this info in it. "On January 25, 2007 an article appeared in the [2] Boston Herald stating that higher music licensing fees could pose a problem to WJIB. BMI and ASCAP licensing fees were increased sixfold due to a new system in which fees were tied to ratings, and WJIB was getting considerably higher ratings."

However in reality the problem with WAIT as standards is not the music licensing fees, its the approx. $12 million Fred paid for the station from NM. You've got to make money back. Many more years of CNN or standards on 850 won't get that money back.

With numbers for AM stations dwindling, especially those that don't already have an established audience, I can't see how anyone will ever make $12M back on a signal like WAIT.

I stand corrected.

Station ratings DO affect license fee.
WOW is radio an awful business. Glad I'm out, and have my money from it.
